Daggerfall - What's the difference between the illusion effe

I'm wondering what exactly is the differences between the effects Chameleon, Invisbility, and Shadow. And what is the difference between the Normal and True versions of these effects?

I've heard that the Undead can sense invisible characters, so Chameleon is preferable when dealing with them. That itself is a rather obscure bit of information though, I wouldn't be surprised if it were one of those things from the Daggerfall Chronicles which isn't true at all. :P

Have we established anything in that book which is legitimately canon yet? ;)

The true version of the effect doesn't come off when you attack, it will always last as long as it's supposed to.

Invisibility is near-perfect concealment (they can still hear you, though). And Stonefrog is correct in that most undead can see right through it. I learned this the hard way :)
Chameleon is cheaper in that it only offers a % concealment.
Shadow is Chameleon that only works in darkness (read: indoors, not outside during the day)

Normal wears off when you hit someone.
True only wears off when the duration runs out.
Of course, once you hit someone, they will automatically always see you. So the True versions only protect you against his buddies. Still very nice to pick off everyone, one by one, in a crowded room.

Thanks for the answers, they were very helpful.

Although it is a little strange. Invisibility seems to be superior to Chameleon and Chameleon superior to Shadow, but when I was checking them in the spellmaker they all had the same cost and none of the effects has a customizable chance of success. While writing the postI also tested in the game and Chameleon doesn't seem to do much. I was sneaking, my Stealth skill is 71, and I wasn't running but the archer in the dungeon still spotted me normally. When I used Invisibility though he didn't notice me and neither did his buddies. I'm using the 15 year anniversary free download version of the game, no unofficial patches.

Oh well, I guess I'll just stick with Invisibility.
