Special abilities

Last time I was seeing Cayo's spell book, I was wondering if he's kind of..overpowered. He's the first char in a while that I've seen him evolve since level 1 instead of cheating to adquire a high level just after the tutorial dungeon. But now in lvl 60, and with lots of combat experience, he has become the most powerful char I've ever created, as he can:

- Cure all his attributes himself with a single spell.
- Summon a giant shadow hound once a day.
- Cast at least 3 types of giant energy balls with important destructive potential.
- Cast Force Bursts that knocks down enemies.
- Teleport himself across the battlefield (short distances), to certain marked points, or to his two castles.
- Recharge enchanted weapons with his own Magicka.
- Enter a "ghostly state" for several seconds to avoid physical/magic damage.
- Totally stop time for several seconds.

...along with tons of offensive spells, from auto-targeting missiles to summon a rain of stones, including massive ice blasts and flamethrower-like spells.

I'd say it's a bit too much...but I think he has also earned them :) And you? Have you chars any unusual abilities you'd like to share?

Im not on the PC so there isnt to much m y characters have though

My battlemage can travel through Cyridill at lightning fast speeds through the use of fortify/attribute/skill

My pure mage also can conjure a full set of armor and sword turning him from a long attacking mage into a close quarters powerhouse

My character doesn't have abilities in that sense, but he's equipted himself in full light armour, a long sword and a shield - and with his incredible agility, he can block an attack and they get a kock back and he runs around them in circles jabbing here and there. They turn so slowly that they loose like 25-50% of their health :P

My character has two special abilities she has gained over time. Neither are available in the vanilla game.

1. She can cause her horse to appear at her side. Anywhere. Even in town or a dungeon.

2. Once a day, she can cause her quiver to fully replenish itself to its capacity of 25 arrows.

Getting overpowered is a challenge that we work hard to counter by incorporating many gimps and limitations.

Cayo has a similar quiver, which gives him infinite arrows (once the arrow count reaches 10, it automatically summons 40 extra ones).

The main limitation that Cayo has is his 200 HP cap limit, and the use of non-overpowered enchanted stuff. He's powerful, as a lvl 60 soldier-mage should be, but if he's not careful he can die, even pretty easily. Besides, a lot of his spells have area effects that can harm him, too, so it takes a bit of strategy to use them.

Overall, I'm pretty happy about his balance. It still provides tension to all Cayo's missions.

Pilgrim's Grace and Mara's Touch and Woad are wonderful for otherwise impossible fights.

Maia is only level 6 (she is a new character, and is intentionally leveling very slow), but with these abilities she has the ability to stand up to hordes of evilness and hold her ground against the worst of it.

That sounds like you have a good balance. I know it is different for differing types of characters. Buffy is permastuck at 30 endurance and strength, so that goes a long way toward the 'glass' part of her glass cannon. Her armor rating is normally about 12 (she dresses only for fashion). The only enchanted apparel she uses is a pair of rings that combine to 360 feet of detect life range. She has even tossed her utilty rings (light, night eye, water walk, water breathe) in favor of simply using spells. She does carry a resist frost ring for RP purposes where it is cold, and a fire shield ring for use in the Deadlands. Since she uses her bow for direct damage, she does not use fire, ice, shock for more than cooking or warming bathwater. Her magic preferences are more toward illusion and restoration.

On the plus side, her father was a Breton, so she possesses 50% resist magic. But she throws away any mundane rings she finds as too overpowering. Also on the plus side, we cap her at 20; that limits her foes from becoming giant hitpoint sumps.

I got my hands into one of those Mundane Rings and gave it to Vilja (lol). I think she liked it.

I'm also thinking about permastuck Cayo's speed at 50-60 instead of the current 72. I've never liked heavy armor wearers moving like acrobats (a-la manga style). Do you use any mod to create that limitation, or the "player.setav" command?

In her childhood, Angel carried enchanted clothes giving her 120% chameleon. She could boost that to around 180% with spells and potions. Having a peaceful personality with just a hint of prankster, It suited her to not go around killing everything that moved. She loved the fact that bear and deer would peacefully wander through her camp at night as she read by the fire or simply star gazed.

That's not to say that she was whimpy. She fought the second half of the battle for Kvatch at level 40. All of her allies died in the first wave and she was forced to take on hordes of deadra single handed. In such circumstances she would never use chameleon. When silence finally fell on this scene of slaughter. she was hip deep in deadra bodies. All done with no enchantments. She used only her potions, poisons, a deadric dagger, and spells. Angel has never worn armor or carried a shield. Also, I play dead-is-dead. If she had died that day, I would have never loaded or re-rolled her again.

We limit those attributes to their base values simply by not letting her select them to improve. If she did accidently bump one up though, I would fix it with the command console. Since she is capped at level 20, it is not hard to ignore some attributes.

Gnaw gro-Sh@t can use any weapon or armor like a pro, and can also seduce Bosmer Maidens at will. (They love some Orc love.)

The only way in which Lothran is overpowered is by his potions and spells and when combining those. He could of course get god-like powers by moving the famous slider to the left, but as he feels that is cheating, he won′t.

Byron can sneak up on anything using raw sneak skill and pull a fast 1, 2 attack maneuver than can even take down an ogre.
He has also been known to snipe a half dozen pack of foes from a distance before any one in the pack can even locate him and where his attack is coming from.
There may be more people that have this ability or a stronger version of it, but Byron also has a spell that absorbs 100pts of health from any foes surrounding him within 10ft.
