bricked pc

Post » Thu Jun 23, 2011 12:06 pm

ok so i feel a mixture of furious at myself and furious at msi global right now. i have just got an amd 6x 1100t i went to put it in my mobo and went to system settings, it was reading as and unknown amd chip at 800mhz. so i did some reading up online and saw that i needed to update my bios (its been a year anyway i figure it needs it). i went to msi (my mobo manufaturer) and did some reading and they said they would rather have me use their "liveupdater" instead of have me fiddle with it, well i did, it flashed over, and now i have a huge paperweight.

when i go to start it up it says that the cmos has an error, it wont hold the date and time and when i finnaly get it to attempt to boot, it says theres no boot mngr.

does anyone know what to do or where to go to fix this and if not, then a decent mobo to replace it that supports the new cpu?

thanx ahead of time for the help, this is sooo frustrating

(and b4 i get yelled at lol i did everything by the book and followed all the rules in live update)

For fixing the boot mngr, you have to insert a Windows install or repair disk. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/fixing-bootmgr-is-missing-error-while-trying-to-boot-windows-vista/ As to the bricked mobo......some motherboards have a second BIOS that you can enter if you corrupt the primary. Though only a select few have that.

(Also asked this to be moved to the CD, people will be more help there)

Many motherboards allow you to use a recovery cd or flash drive to repair the bios. One example is Asus CrashFree BIOS. Now this may not fix all issues with bios eeprom failure.

If you're getting a CMOS failure and bootmngr missing errors then you may have flashed the bios to an incorrect revision. You should be able to fix it by entering the bios flash utility outside of Windows. Double-check that you have the correct bios ROM file for your motherboard make, model and revision. Note: Some BIOS ROM files can be flaky so you nay need to try another version.

Other hardware may cause CMOS checksum errors. If you continue to have issues with multiple BIOS ROM files then check your RAM.

i'd recommend calling their customer service and letting them know that their liveupdater ruined your BIOS

I have a better idea - Don't deal with MSI products. I have a history of problems with anything made or handled by MSI. Bricked bios is on the top of the list.
