Do TES and Fallout really appeal to different fans?

Just like they improved level scaling in Oblivion, so do I think they will improve perks in Skyrim. While the perks may not look like the perks from FO3, which is a good thing given one has guns and the other swords and magic, the influence is undeniably there.

BTW, Kiralyn, you give me no credit by saying I wouldn't have made the connection if perks had been called something else. Although, since they are called perks, your point is moot. And, yes, I completely agree with you in that the companies do learn from making other games. I hope they took notice of some things from Fallout and used them to improve Skyrim.

Many of the perks in Fallout are completely unrelated to skills.
What skill would the Skyrim equivilent of Confirmed Bachelor or Cannibal come under?
There are no perks dependent on learning other perks in Fallout 3 (although there are a few in FONV)

I can't. And I wont.

They're not the same franchise, yet, today, they play almost exactly alike, with the same design goals (change magic for guns and implement some remodeling to Oblivion and you get Fallout 3).

Yeah =/ I personally don't particularly mind that though. I play TES and Fallout for the adventure and the "choose-your-own-path" type of gameplay. I prefer TES cause I like fantasy over sci-fi, I do like them both and even if they play the same they're totally different environments, different fighting, different character setup (which is a big defining factor between the two, imo) and different stories..

But hey if you have a problem with it, to every man his own, yeah?

I love both games since they are both VERY different I cant wait till they make a new fallout...Sometimes I feel like shooting things with a gun, sometimes i feel like throwing a fire ball at a troll

When I played Oblivion, I made a H2H char, and I did'nt like it. Fallout 3 and NV made punching and Blocking feel better.

Not so much a problem, just a disappointment over wasted potential (on Fallouts part - TES is TES). But yea, to each pair of nostrils his own.

If they can get better mechanics for Skyrim based off of some of the idea from their previous work Fallout 3 they should use it to improve TES I see no problem with changeing things as long as its for the better and we dont get a TES: Nuclear Wasteland or something as stupid as that but yes some of Fallout 3's ideas was better than Oblivions and with Fallout 3 a sister game that in a lot of ways was copied from TES why not improve upon some design flaws and carry them over to Skyrim.
