Is the Nord Dragonborn a stereotype now?

Post » Fri Jun 24, 2011 10:02 am

Well, with Thu'um being a Nord thing and all, I think a Nord Dragonborn does make the most sense, but in the end it is up to the player, and no one else.

ya it's only a marketing decision, which i wish they didn't use. they should just use dragons as their mascot, not a player character customized by them, im sure it's very misleading to new fans who think the game looks cool, but i doubt they know you can customize your character.

It's not even just new fans. Certain friends of mine have been with the series since Morrowind and believe there's only one race. People who just don't follow the game like we forum-dwellers do, in general, are susceptible to believing there is only one playable race.

I only ever played Morrowind extensively as a Dunmer spellsword, just felt right to me.

Conversely I only ever play OB extensively as a stealthy Khajiit assassin, no other build felt as good to me.

Guess it just depends.

I have an idea of what I want to try for my first build in Skyrim, and it's not a Nord barbarian, lol, but I'll have to actually play the game to know what works for me.

I have no plans to make my char a nord. Think about it this way....if the Dragonborn were a dark elf what would people who have never played a TES game think??? Probably something like "wtf is that stupid alien looking thing??" It just makes sense.

Although he won't be my main character, I have the urge to make mr. prisoner Nord man my first

I have that same urge even though I love playing as Dunmer. I'm going to a least have one dedicated playthrough as a Nord maybe not my first but at least once.

Argonians and Khajiits were pretty much the only reason I didn't give Oblivion a second glance when it came out. "The game looks amazing, but... talking lizards? And cat-people? Not for me."

I played it eventually and loved it, and after a few days playing you got used to the races and they felt natural and fitting in that world, but... I could definately see a screenshot of an Argonian in armour being a major turnoff for new players.

For me, whenever I think of dragonborn I think of that guy in the background of this website. I dont think of a lizard dragonborn or a human cat as one, it just seems ridiculous for me now. Todd said you can be any race and be dragonborn, but for me I only see the human looking races as the more realistic races to play.

What do you lot think?

yea....kinda Bothers me as well i would like to start seeing some High Elf and Argonian Dragon born pics just to show me anyone can be dragonbron
good topic

Its untimately the players decision to create the new Dragonborn but yes they are pushing the Nords, they pushed Sheperds default apperence in Mass Effect but how many of us honestly played as default Sheperd and in Oblivion I never made an Imperial and in Morrowind I made three Dunmer out of like 10 to 15 characters. Its all about plaer choice.

What are you fools talking about? Nords have beards, everyone knows that. No beard, no Nord. That holds for the women, children, and dragons too. No, the Skyrim mascot is clearly a Breton :P

Edit: And I'll be playing a Dunmer Dovakhiin for the same reason I played an Argonian Nerevarine-- to piss off the locals :P Oh yeah, I saved your ass. What, you wanna say something? That's what I thought ;)

I am sure they use a Nord as an example because Skyrim is home of the Nords.
