The odd one out: Air Stomp

Post » Fri Jun 24, 2011 7:02 pm

It's been a while since the game was first released but it's only taken me until now to figure out and post on an observation of mine, about Air Stomp.

It's weird, all the modules have been put into logical categories, the modules that protect you from threats were made into ARMR modules, the ones that dealt with detecting and enhancing stealth were in STLTH and the ones involved with weapon control and movement was in POW. What part of Air Stomp helps protect you as an ARMR module anyway? If anything, missing a stomp or trying to hit a sufficiently protected enemy player only makes you MORE vulnerable than anything.

Maybe it was done that way so it could work with [Mobility Enhance II]? Who knows.

Not really a game-breaker at all, it just seems strange that out of all the modules Air Stomp seems to be placed in the wrong category. Heck, even in single player, Air Stomp's a power module choice, what happened there?

Thing is, if you level up the stomp(i don't often get killed by anyone using this, once they land they freeze for a sec or two, enough time for twenty ay69 bullets in the face), anyways you can use it to jump off things without getting killed, perhaps one of it's most useful features, jumping off buildings etc.

Air-stomp level 2, as stated above, is VERY useful to evade combat by jumping off tall buidings. Even in extraction or capture the relay it allows you to take paths that will slowdown (and sometime kill) people on your trail.

The only drawback i found so far is that you have to land on your feet to be effective, if you fall from high and ledgegrab something on the way down you will take usual falling damage.

Air-stomp 3 get up speed is insanely short, if you manage to unlock it you'll be in an air-stomp paradise :)

Ah, I didn't take into account of [Air Stomp]'s later abilities. A little too focused on the offensive ability that was loaded to the front. Even in other modules the cross-perk abilities are usually in the later levels. Like [Covert Ops III] granting you extra perception to enemy movement sounds for a Stealth module for example

That sounds pretty sadistic, I might level air stomp. I've noticed its mainly useful on crashsite.

yup air stomp 2 is extremely useful in CTR and extraction..... many a times ive captured relays and ticks and made super high jumps off the highest points and i get great distance and anyone who follows me is forced to do an Armor delayed landing or die trying...

examples of good maps to use this is Wall Street Extraction (after getting the stealth tick, u can just jump down the broken part of the building straight to the heli).... Downed Bird fastest way down from the building...u can even jump all the way down to the basemant level...

For TIA, Crash Site or IA, u can use this in Lighthouse cos u can run all the way up the light house, kill the snipers, and jump straight down and kill the rest climbing up the stairs to kill you... repeat until you become top fragger :P

**Take note though.. with air stomp level 2..... when u use Maximum Nanosuit and jump down from a high point, u will still do an Armor landing and waste time... i dont know why... maybe its an overlooked bug
