Actually Todd did say that there would be some companions with deep back stories and dialog.

he also said they are going to try something and see if it would work Sacrificing Companion Background for more companions

[did not see any topic so im making one about Companion Lore

i remember in a Interveiw with Todd he mention that they where going to try out more Companions at the cost of backstories for them, now this is my Personal opinion and i think people would agree that Background and lore is a reason why people play RPGs, for the story and ability to make choices. I would Rather have 5 different unique backgrounds, personalities and opinions on the stories much like the Squad mates in Mass Effect (great game) i really dont want dull mercenaries or a silent priest who just wants to aid you on your quest...."or atleast if they dont want to talk about or have a backstory"

My fear is Fallout 3 companions who all seemed to have a awesome background but at the same time in the end of the day they where just pack mules who carried my stuff i dont want that for TES companions i want awesome Heros, badass Mercs like Wrex, pampered mages who always get there way and Priest with dark backgrounds with cool stories
does anyone else feel the same or am i alone? why or why not

and one Q will the companions work like they did in Fallout:NV with a companion wheel?

I don't know if you can source a link to that specific interview, but my recollection was that there would be a large number of companions with very little or no background (various NPCs you can talk to and persuade or hire to accompany you); however, there were also a few with deeper backstories.

I opted for more companions. I especially hope that you can have more than 8 companions with you at one time, and that you can fit them with armor. It was kind of difficult roleplaying Lord of Battlehorn Castle with only one soldier and others without armor.

I travel alone but if I wanted a companion they should be fleshed out and have a deep back story to make them interesting.

I think New Vegas had companions at about the point that I'd like to see. No real deep relationships, but they'd still have a personality and maybe a quest or two. Maybe borrow a bit from the buddies in Far Cry 2, if anyone's played that. I'd want more personality and story out of them, but to have them functionally a cross between FC2 and New Vegas would be great.

I want there to be friendships kinda like FarCry 2 where they will help you fight and if you both win he/she will say "Oh I just got worried about you and I followed you because I thought you would say no..." And you can cook with them, wood cut with them, and do other things like hunting and such. And sometimes they will ask you to hunt down a theif that stole his/her special amulet that was given to them by their parents. Something along the lines of that.

--------------------------------------

I have been saying that for a while now. I even had that whole thing saved just for this occasion.

By the way, I would like the talk to one, and the fighting one as well.

There is a reason this site is low contrast. You can't stare at high contrast web pages for 18hrs straight without massive eye strain. My forums are an even lower contrast, black text on dark grey background for this exact reason.

I wouldn't want just another pack mule or meat shield. Few companions with deep back story and personality definitely sounds like a good idea.
