Will Heavy armor be more rare?

Post » Sun Jun 26, 2011 7:13 am

We have yet to see much (if any) heavy armor in the Videos.

Its skyrim, where the terrain isn't exactly as flat as Cyrodil. I'd figure most people would favor light, warm, and flexible armors than the Heavy, cumbersome, made of [censored]-freezing-metal armor.

I usually play the get up in your face warrior, but all I've seen in the videos is (what looks like) light armor.

Now, if they just have light armor, I won't complain. Its much more realistic for adventuring and whatnot.

Then there is this ork wearing full plate.

It just seems like light armor like furs and leather fit the atmosphere better is all.

no, there's both. actually the armor that dragonborn wears all the time is heavy, in the e3 footage, it says "heavy armor increased" while he's wearing it.

I wouldn't imagine it's rarer, but I do hope it has more gameplay distinctions. And I do agree that wearing lighter armor would be smart in rocky, mountainous areas.

Nah, that would be fairly unfair for everyone who wants to play with Heavy Armor rather than Light Armor.

They are Nords. The race that loves to drink and weild battle axes. Do you think they would not want to wear heavy armour with that axe?

I'm starting to wonder if that Khajiit's armor might be one of the race-specific armors they've been talking about.

Now is it the Khajiit’s fur who pokes through the armor? If so it’s so high quality its almost scary.

Armor made with more mundane materials like Iron and Steel should be common enough; but I sincerely hope that Ebony and Daedric will be very rare (and not worn by every third brigand by the time you hit level 20) ;)

Ayleid (Elven) and Dwemer armor should be relatively hard to find as well in my opinion, but not as rare as Ebony and Daedric.

As the location determine level this should reduce the amount of high class armor anyway, if you want daeric be prepared to raid level 40-50 dungeons.

Hopefully equipment isn't determined by level like in Oblivion. I should be able to find a daedric sword at level 1... just make it pretty much impossible to get.

As long as they're not just part in some levelled loot list where every brigand magically sprouts a suit at level 20 but the pieces actually being stashed around the gameworld as static items to find (like in Morrowind and with the rare items in FO3/NV), I'm all for raiding difficult dungeons and remote ice castles. And until I can display my suit of rare armor proudly through the streets, I will make do with regular armor forged at the smithy :)

Now I would say it was far harder to get elven and ebony armor in Oblivion than Morrowind where you could steal them at low level. The weakness with hidden static items is that once you know about the locations they are not secret anymore, also if you hide them to well it’s kind of pointless as you either have to have very serious luck to find them or you read a spoiler page.

Not that I want every level 50 marauder to have daeric, if you are lucky you find an enemy with a piece, usually you have to find a leader to get some.

Handplaced powerful items work if it’s a quest in itself getting it, old faithful in Fallout 3 was a good example, you would use some hours just getting to it, Lincoln’s repeater was not.
