KOTN question

Post » Wed Aug 26, 2009 12:59 am

Just a wee small question. I have the GOTY edition of Oblivion and wanted to start playing the KOTN. What level do you suggest I start playing it?

Thanks,
Raed

I did it at 13-14. I felt my character was well-prepared for any large battle and the armor you get when you start has definite benefits. Earlier is good too, later and the enemy is tougher, of course. You don't have to worry about leveled rewards. Good luck!

You could do Knights of the Nine at any level as the Crusader stuff levels up with you. The only problem doing it early is that the enemies will be harder then they would be at higher levels.

Thank for the info. I'll probably wait till I'm around 8-10th level. Should not take to long to do that.

I'd wait until after you've finished the main quest, theives guild, and dark brotherhood. what ever level you are after these questlines should be good for KOTN.

I usually wait till the end of the Thieves Guild as the bonus from it means that you have a way to commit crimes without getting sent on a Pilgramage again.

Do not wait too long (definitely before level 15) because your allies must wear that KotN light armour and it becomes almost useless at high levels (that is assuming, of course, you want your comrades to survive).

level 1-3

^ Just started new game, did it straight away (lv 3) before starting Shivering Isles, because I wanted the sweet gear. :)

It does take around 2-3 hours maybe more of time, depending on how acquainted you are with moving around Cyrodiil and finding new locations. The battles can be quite tough however, espicaially at one point where you have to defeat nine (yes, 9), full fledged knights, one after the other, very soon into the quest.

That said, the KOTN quests do give you a chance to get into (or back into) the game, give you enough enemies to train on and enough puzzles/dungeons to keep things fresh.

Is it true that the weapons/gear get better when you level up, even if you already own them??

Yes. When you put the armor and weapons on the Crusader's Relics stand at the Priory of the Nine, they are repaired and level up to your newest level. I always keep the boots, gauntlets and greaves with me.

If you do the infamous quest lines you can't equip any of the special armour or weapons which you must have to complete the quest.

However should you do it before the start of the quest you have to do the pilgrimage anyway so it does not affect anything.

You can equip the armour after joining the evil guilds or committing a crime if you do the pilgrimage again.
It depends wether you want to be good or evil.
Good do it anytime.
Evil after DB and TG quests.

I hate people fawning over my characters, calling them Champion of Cyrodiil or Divine Crusader and such. My characters are not 'heroes' and being called so ruins things for us. Therefore, when my characters have decided to do the the Main Questline or KOTN in the past, it always signaled their pending retirement and subsequent deletion.

My current character, thankfully, has no desire to complete either of these questlines.

I have KOTN installed but not activated - I don't like the changes it brings to Cyrodiil.

Objectively, there are a couple considerations that have been touched on:
- Doing it early gets you some nifty gear that can level as you do.
- Doing it early can make then doing the DB & TG somewhat problematic, without some creativity, planning and mental gymnastics.
- Doing it late can serve to repent one of previous darker paths taken.

I'm currious what you mean by the changes it brings to Cyrodiil. I've been thinking about purchasing the KOTN download but wasn't sure. I couldn't see from the wiki article what if any changes happen to the game environment.

When installed and activated, KOTN causes a bloody attack upon the Chapel of Dibela in Anvil. It also causes rumors about the attack to be spread all over Cyrodiil. These things happen even if you ignore the quest. I find it better to wait until if/when I want to do the quest before I activate it.

It is a wonderfully done DLC and I highly recommend it, particularly for 'noble' type characters. :)

Okay, thanks for the info. I think I'll go ahead with it.

I don't care so much about the anvil chapel anyway. Personally I've never cared for the christian looking cathedrals for pagan gods. To my mind the nice pillared garden across the street from the chapel makes for a much better temple to a goddess of love. The prioress or whatever she's called likes to hang out there too.

I did the DLC at level 34 with no real problems. Lost three of the named Knights, and my black horse somehow, in the final battle.

Most likely best to do the quest line very early, or very late, in a character's lifetime. Very early because you have access to the relics for the Oblivion and SI main quests. Good to have those relics before superior sigil stone enchanted Madness/Amber items opens up. Very late because you can zero out your infamy that could be well over 50 at this point. Otherwise the relics are kinda 'meh' at this point. 100, or greater, in nearly all stats/skills does that.
