Help with Downloading

Post » Tue Jun 28, 2011 11:38 pm

I am new to modding and these are my 2 first attempts at downloading mods (not very successfully so far). I have been trying to download a couple of different mods over the last couple of hours with no success. I started with what I thought would be 2 basic mods for making NPC's look better.

The mods in question are World of faces and Better Bodies v2.2. I downloaded them from planetelderscrolls.com

I however can't seem to get them to work. I tick the box in the data files on the Morrowind launch screen but when I try loading a game save file it says

model load error: meshes/bb/bb/_skinm_de.nif
Cannot load file in: meshes/bb/bb/_skinm_de.nif
Will use default object _error.NIF

or something similar on other occasions during other attempts.

I have tried downloading the mods a few times and reinstalling them but the same error keeps coming up. If anyone has any advice, it would really help this mod virgin.

That's a missing Better Bodies mesh. Weird that only one would be missing.

2 quick things to check:

1- Do you get the same error when you start a new game?
2- Did you check in "Morrowind\Data Files\Meshes\bb" to see if you could find the mesh?

It's the same if I start a new game to if I load a saved game.

I did look and it was in the file where it should be, for what reason it isn't working I don't know

Thing is when I redownload the mod it ends up being a different file missing. I must be doing something wrong when I install the mod but I don't know what. I have watched various videos on Youtube and read articles on websites and I am pretty sure I have done everything correctly (clearly not)

The problem is clearly with the installing, not the downloading. What OS are you using? Windows 7 with a default install could potentially be a problem. And are you using an exe installer or installing manually? If installing BB manually, after copying everything into your data files folder you will have to go into your meshes folder, find the bb folder, and copy the meshes you want out of the subfolders (either n for nvde or u for underwear, as far as I recall) and into the bb folder itself. Reading readmes is occasionally necessary when installing a mod. *chuckle*

Okay then, just to be on the safe side, go on the http://www.psychodogstudios.com/betterbodies/downloads.php and download the NoInstaller version and do a manual installation.

I am using windows 7 and attempting to install it manually. I have been reading lots of guides, but with myself not being hugely technical I get easily confused. Still I am if anything persistent.

Yes, but are you using the default install path? ProgramFiles(x86)? Or are you using a Steam install. What's your current path?

C:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda Softworks\Morrowind\Data Files is where the Better Bodies install wants to save it by default but that location seems to do nothing.

C:\Program Files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\morrowind\Data Files is where I am saving it and that is getting it recognised by the launch engine and the game seems to be picking up the information apart from the few files that come up with an error as stated above

Sorry if not making much sense.....

OK, you have changed the path in the BB installer but it still doesn't work. I recommend dl'ing the non-installer version and manually dropping the files in your data folder. I dimly remember having to do that myself but it was about a year ago.

Well nothing I am trying seems to be working thanks for trying to help anyway. It's probably a simple solution that escapes my limited knowledge.

The only thing left for me to try I suppose is to uninstall everything and start again by reinstalling Morrowind from Steam.

That really shouldn't be necessary. The one complication to the manual install is that you have to deal with the separate folders for the nvde/underware variations. You can't just unpack to the mesh and texture folders. you have to take the meshes and textures out of the u or n folders and put them into the root folders. It sounds like that may be your problem here; the missing files are in one of those folders and not in the root folder. In other words, the texture file has a bunch of textures and folders for the nvde or underware version. You need to take the textures of the folder you want and put them in the main textures folder. Same for meshes.
