Scrolls In Skyrim?

Post » Tue Jun 28, 2011 1:43 pm

I was just playing some Fallout 3 and remembered you can put a live frag grenade inside someone's inventory (via pickpocket) and... well, you know what comes next.

Well, that reminded me about Oblivion and Skyrim. I know in Oblivion there were many scrolls that generally did more than your basic abilities could do for no cost aside from destroying the scroll. I also recall having an entire dresser of scrolls going unused because they were rather scarce and I'm sort of cheap like that.

Something I wanted in Oblivion was the ability to custom craft scrolls. I certainly would have used them more if I didn't have to pick and choose which ones were actually useful.

Anyway, I was just wondering if Scrolls are coming in Skyrim, and if so, could they be pickpocket-ed into someone's inventory for maximum damage?

I suppose you could just cast it on the enemy directly, but if there were a delay on the scroll that allowed you to sneak away then it would give "sneakers" a better way to use the scrolls. Or perhaps only when the enemy engages in combat it triggers the scroll.

Also, somewhat unrelated, is there fatigue in the game (in the same fashion that there was in Oblivion, what with all the knockouts)? Because I see a cool opportunity to put a custom crafted scroll of damage fatigue into someone's inventory to dispose of them for a duration of an upcoming fight. (Thinking of a Christopher Walken "Shh" moment. Ha.)

So ya, I was just wondering. It would be cool to have all of the above, but I understand if it won't be possible. Thank you.

I guess you could slip a scroll into somebodies pocket, but how would you force them to read it?

Well, not necessarily read it, but it be self-activated after a time or when the enemy shows hostile intent. It's magic!

Yeah, its kind of based on the whole DnD you have to read the scroll to activate.

Perhaps you can replace it with they're shopping list. They'll explode before they know what happened.

Maybe you activate it when you put it on them? Maybe give it a cast time purposefully?

I mean, you have to admit it would be sort of cool, right?

The thing is spell scrolls in Elder Scrolls are made with souls (Morrowind). If the text was the source of the power there would be no reason why it should disappear or why it would need a soul.

I always imagined my scrolls in Morrowind to be parchments with magical seals/runes and when activated they release their power. I see no reason why you could activate it from a distance, though I guess it would be more like C4 that a live frag.

I'm not sure if you understand what I mean.

When you pickpocket (close range) in Fallout 3 you can put a LIVE grenade into someone's inventory. After a little while the thing blows your target up. This allows you to use explosives to do sneaky damage.

So the scrolls wouldn't be at range, instead you put one in the target's inventory, walk away, and then attack from a distance. If it is used when the target turns hostile you could load up an attack on one target and have the scroll handle the other, almost instantaneously.
