Stealth gameplay

In Oblivion, despite its improvements over the way Daggerfall & Morrowind handled stealth play, it still felt lacking at times. For example, once they detected you, there was no way to hide from them since they had GPS tracking (and the AI would chase you across Cyrodiil trying to kill you). And there's no way to create a true distraction. Further, townsfolk don't seem very fazed by corpses in the streets. Guards would comment that "there's a killer about" (even if they just killed the bandit), and then merrily go about their patrols.

Now I heard in Skyrim, enemies have varying degrees of reactions, and you can apparently hide again after being detected. What I want to know is:

1. Will town guards go into alert readiness after detecting a corpse? And if the player is a on a homicidal rampage or there's a dragon attack, will they send out SWAT teams to secure the settlement?

2. Can we use distractions to confuse bandits, castle guards, giants, or other creatures? (I doubt they'd work on undead, daedra, or dragons)

3. Can we knock out NPCs without killing them?

4. Are there any cardboard boxes?

I like the way Assassin's Creed used reactions to dead bodies. I would like a similar function in Skyrim. I would also love an addition to alchemy for making bombs, smoke bombs, etc...

Hiding in crates sounds like a great idea.

I hope you can knock people out silently, that way I don't have to kill anyone. That was always my favorite part of MGS.

Even though I love AC its one part of the game that doesn't shine.. city streets guards go over see a dead guy say "who DID THIS!!!" wait 15 seconds their back on their scripted route walking over the body again and again. Now is it better then what Oblivion has in it ya. But Fallout 3 the guards do search around if bodies are discovered. Wouldn't mind the bombs though those were fun although I rarely used them personally though due to how useless they when you can just chop 30 guys in 10 seconds. Anyways back to the OP

1. Most likely search around here and there but if you leave the cell search will end.

2. Like noises? Possibly it was done in Fallout 3 no reason for it to be out in Skyrim

3. I hope so. Since you can stealth kill now a KO wouldn't be too hard to implement

4. Carboard boxes no, Wooden crates YES! But I do hope for some missions that are similar to the DB Pirate one that was one of the best stealth quests.

A game I would want Skyrim to look at for stealth is Splinter Cell. From light to noise it is the best game with that play style as far as I am aware.

Will it be more like the Metal Gear games?

Doubtful. If I had to guess, I'd say it'll be very similar to how it was in Oblivion and Fallout 3 (there wasn't much change in basic stealth mechanics between those two games - it's safe to guess that Beth's programmers like it that way.)

if will be good if it becomes like metal gear style but skyrim [censored] are too afraid that bethesta will focus too much of stealth rather than other areas thus they dont want this to implement

Is this reason enough to press report comment botton?
I mean, its obvious he is not even just stupid, but going out of his way to flame. If he was being serious he would not call a game by a name that was not used in first place, he also is derailing the convo and over all being an pain.

Anyway, I think stealth is fine as long as the build it out a little, we do not need the best stealth ever.(thought it would be nice if they did, but if they do. Then PLEASE take a look at 'Thief' not Metal great solid... that games is also medival(well steam punk) based and a lot like how a stealth char in Skyrim should play)

An improved stealth system for Skyrim would be greatly appreciated. In Oblivion, I hated all the flaws with the stealth that the OP mentioned. I hope NPCs will no longer shrug off sneak attacks as "damn rats" or "must have been the wind" upon losing sight of your character. I found it hilarious and outrageous when NPCs blame the "wind" for having an arrow stuck in their leg or they're suffering from a poison wound from my blade slash.

Aye, stealth mechanics from Thief are more applicable than those of MGS.

I would really, like to see, for example, some arrows similar to the ones in Thief - ones that can put out lights, ones that can lay surfaces that muffle footsteps.

Always annoyed me in Oblivion there was no way to generate shadows (but you could generate light all you wanted.) Yes, there was Chameleon and Invisibility, but Chameleon worked everywhere, even in sunlight, cost magicka, and you mightn't be able cast/find the good gear that would keep you hidden.

Also, on the topic of stealth, I think a good perk would be one that prevents spell casting lighting you up.
