Best Gameplay/Graphics Mods June 2011

Post » Wed Jun 29, 2011 2:54 am

I've been playing Oblivion for a while and am experienced in installing mods and everything but something has gone wrong. My game just isn't acting right and I feel I have too many mods at this point and many that are way to outdated. The game just doesn't look/feel right so I want to uninstall and delete everything I have and start from scratch. I just started playing Oblivion again recently so I am not up to date on all the newest mods. I was wondering if you guys could post up the best mods so that Oblivion will be looking better than ever and the gameplay will be overhauled (I'm guessing FCOM?) I've been out of the Oblivion loop for about a year so i'm pretty behind. I don't need reccomendations for like armor and houses or anything, just looking for overhauls, graphics/textures, UI mods, and large mods that add landmasses and new towns or things like that. Thanks in advance and sorry for such a noob post.

files of the month
top 25 in the past 2 weeks
Advanced search allows you to set date and category restriction

As for personal reccomendations, a number of my "must haves" below are recent mods that are quite good.

I'm not much of a graphics person though, but recently I've seen:
immersive interiors (had a recent update a few days ago)
liquid water
obge
really textured normal maps

which all look good.

It all depends on what you are looking for. Really it all comes down to opinions. There are all kinds of lists of mods that go into great detail. I tend to disdain anything that puts mods in any sort of
"Quality" comparison to each other so I can't personally reccomend any "Best" or "Best of" mods or mod lists for that matter. http://devnull.sweetdanger.net/home.html Here this should help somewhat, it has a list of graphic overhauls somewhere in there.
QTP2 is a good compromise, and QTP3 is great if you have the resources for it.
Though if I'm not mistaken there are alot of newer graphical overhuals that have higher quality textures. Maybe check out really textured normals.
I don't know alot of people use bomret's as a base and go from there.
Gameplay however is COMPLETELY subjective and there is literally somthing out there for everyone

I have to say, I recently added All Natural, with Real Lights, and and Natural Interiors, along with Immersive Interiors, and wow. No effect on my frame rate, they were easy to install, and they worked beautifully. You can now gaze out a window at the town and watch the thunderstorm blow through town from inside the pub. The weather elements are a matter of taste - you may or may not like all the changes. So far I am happy with them, and the overall color modifications to the game add some environmental diversity. Definitely worth a look.

Checking out really textured normal maps phoenix1213, they look excellent.

My list is then for you... my list regroup all the best mod, mad or updated recently, or just final release almost bugfree. My list is more oriented at game play than graphics. http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1204263-list-of-best-mod-2011/.

I was bored to use all those list that where made in 2010 and before, that recommend to use outdated mod like Oblivion XP(now, we use Oblivion XP UPDATED, less bug, more stable and better), recommend living economy(now we use enhanced economy).

I've been out of the Oblivion loop for about a year so i'm pretty behind. I don't need reccomendations for like armor and houses or anything, just looking for overhauls, graphics/textures, UI mods, and large mods that add landmasses and new towns or things like that. Thanks in advance and sorry for such a noob post.

Here's a list a composed the other day for someone with similar interests.

1. Tools: I use http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=32277, which allows you to pull info from TESNexus when creating omods. However, a growing number of people use http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22368 BAIN installer feature now. Since I don't use it, I can't really comment on that. http://obse.silverlock.org/ is still the big thing, and you can find the latest stable version on their website.

2. Overhauls: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35265 does a great job at making the world random and intriguing without adding any new material. Use that with http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=17784 and you should have quite a bit of fun. MMM just adds a huge amount of creatures and such.

3. Graphics: http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=2363 or http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=3813 is still a big deal, but there are more comprehensive texture enhancers that just add more depth to the normal maps. You can videos and discussions of several popular graphics mods (including those that affect the way characters and water look) on http://matthewkaine.blogspot.com/.

4. Immersion: I used NoM back when I played Morrowind, and I can assure you there are several different approaches to adding this sort of thing into the game. However, I've never looked into it too much myself, so I sadly can't provide you with many names at the moment. I've been told that http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15773 is good for this sort of thing, but it appears to no longer be updated. http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=37088 looks more current, but also keep in mind that it adds new materials to the game, which is important to consider when sorting out compatibility issues.

5. Weather: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=18305 is the largest weather enhancer currently released and regularly updated and supported. It includes a few smaller weather mods and allows you add things like weather sounds in interiors and change interior lighting to be dependent on physical light sources. I also discussed this mod in my blog.

6. House Mods: Take a look at the site http://www.oblivionsrealestate.com/. While I don't believe it's super up-to-date, it still is the largest listing of house mods that I currently know about. You're pretty much guaranteed to find something you like there.

7. Combat: I've tried http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8273 but got rid of it due to the annoyance of it's glitches and the complications of learning new combos and such. I love http://www.tesnexus.com/modules/members/index.php?id=329734 work, so I highly recommend it. Magic is something I have yet to look into, but I recommend taking a look at the comparison list of magic overhauls http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/78260-magic-overhaul-comparison/ on the TESNexus forums.

8. Content: Take a look at my blog for my posts about http://matthewkaine.blogspot.com/2011/04/living-roads.html and http://matthewkaine.blogspot.com/2011/05/crowded-cities-improved.html. They both do a lot to make Cyrodiil feel more alive and thriving. You should also check out big mods that add large amount of weapons and armor such as http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=25309 and http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=18417.

9. Leveling: I sadly can't really comment on leveling mods, since I personally enjoy the way leveling works in the game. However, http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35333 has been noted as being very similar to Fallout's leveling system. If that's what you're looking for, go for it. Pretty sure it's regularly updated, too.

10. Misc: Again, I can't stress more how useful my blog will be to you. If you didn't notice the link I put earlier in this post, it's also the second link in my signature. There a several mods on there that I'm sure you'll enjoy, so don't hesitate to take the time to read up on them.

Welcome back, and I hope I helped!
