Mods are not working

Post » Wed Jun 29, 2011 2:41 pm

Many times in the past have i played oblivion then stopped because i overloaded it with mods, i stop because of anything from being unable to hear voices to just a crash to desktop. So this time i decided just to get some of the bare essentials (although i got a bit carried away its still alot less than usual) which are as follows

Spoiler
Active Mod Files:
00 Oblivion.esm
01 Francesco's Leveled Creatures-Items Mod.esm [Version 4.5bSI]
02 Francesco's Optional New Items Add-On.esm [Version 4.5bSI]
03 Francesco's Optional New Creatures Add-On.esm [Version 4.5bSI]
04 Unofficial Oblivion Patch.esp [Version 3.2.0]
05 Francesco's Optional Files.esp
06 SupremeMagicka.esp
07 Francesco's 14 days respawn time - 1-24 day lenght rescale.esp
08 24HrArenaAliveV2Towers.esp
09 Bashed Patch, 0.esp

However as i started playing i noticed that the scaling still seemed to be happening, i quit and checked that they were all enabled in the launcher, so i got wyre bash, deleted some of my over 2000 saves and again, the mods are all still apparently enabled, the folders in programfiles/oblivion all look right but it still doesn't work. Everything looks fine bet none of the mods are changing the game noticeably. Please help

PS Also, as a side note i cant start oblivion through wyre as i get this error
close_fds is not supported on Windows platforms
Used Path: C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\obse_loader.exe
Used Arguments:

Traceback (most recent call last):

File "C:\Program Files\Python 2.5.2\lib\subprocess.py", line 552, in __init__
raise ValueError("close_fds is not supported on Windows "
ValueError: close_fds is not supported on Windows platforms

PPS On another side-note every time i have tried obse to load it has caused me to ctd on start up and then every time after, even when i don't use the obse launcher, until i re-install (i have re-installed 3 times with this problem but haven't deleted the folders as i don't want to lose my saves)

So erm, post it in the Wrye Bash thread where the programmers will see it?

Cool, that may help with one or two of the current Wrye Bash problems. But if you are not on windows XP ...

I am not going to be much help to you regards FCOM (totally in-experienced), but a fair few of your problems could be because if you are on Windows Vista or 7 ...

C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\

C:\Program Files\ is a bad place to install the game.

Yes its the default location, but it was the default before microsoft decided to go protecting that folder and causing an amazing amount of problems for us.

Install the game outside of that folder, and all the utilities and plugins required for modding oblivion which also need to be installed in the games installation folder will work properly again. (With the exception of the current Wrye Bash, which does not work right unless you disable CBash (read the description on TESNexus), and even then can have problems. If you need to .. go back to v291)

C:\Games\Oblivion\ for instance. During install of your game change the install path.

May prove invaluable for you.

I dont know what you are referring to with 'scaling'

If you are trying to use an old save with a lot of your previous mods removed - that may be an issue too.

Nope, i am using XP, by scaling i mean Level Scaling which Francescos kinda stops and the saves are all without mods

10 minutes later...
Okay, tried moving it to games, no change, still my game is not loading the mods and i am still getting the close_fds thing. Oh and dont know if it changes anything but for some reason i now have to go straight to the exe file as the loader cannot find it :brokencomputer:

Okay, tried moving it to games

.., moving ???, it ???, what is it?

If you are on windows XP then theres no need to move anything so whatever you just did probably made things worse?

I was referring to Windows Vista and Windows 7 which creates a problem because User Account Control (UAC) protects the Program files folder (did you take a look at the two links I gave)

So if you have one of those operating systems then you are better off Installing the game from the start not in its default location.

Installing - Not Moving.

And in your case - Because you are on windows XP (thats the Operating system by microsoft before Vista and 7 - Just making sure) you dont need to re-install (or move anything)

And the "Loader" (Do you mean Oblivion Launcher, or OBSE loader) probably cant find the exe because you moved "it" (whatever it was)

I'm lost what to suggest now you have taken seemingly random steps - Un-Install everything and re-install would probably be the best course.

i moved the bethseda folder to games and for loader i meant the oblivion loader, if i uninstall everything, where are my saves located so i can save them. I didn't exactly take random steps just you said that it could be in the wrong place (program files) if i was using vista or 7 and even though i was in xp i have tried everything else so i thought i may as well give it a go. I have already reinstalled 3 times beforhand with no change and i am not willing to delete the folders, (which works more often) until i know where i can find the saves in order to back them up

Oh and i googled the close_fds problem and apparently it is a feature of python bot all the solutions are way to advance for me.

I am a Vista user, my saved games are in C:\Users\"My Name"\Documents\My Games\Oblivion\Saves. <--- the ini or configuration settings file called Oblivion is in Documents\My Games\Oblivion too.
You can use the Installshield Wizard on Your Oblivion disc to uninstall the game, and it will leave your saved games and mods alone. It will also leave the configuration settings file - named Oblivion - installed, but this can be manuallly deleted.
Have you considered using the stand-alone version of Wrye Bash 291, it does not require Wrye Python, and for a player it does a very good job.
