Will there be -

1st Playthrough, Kill everyone.

2nd Playthrough, Destroy Everything.

3rd Playthrough, Deforest everywhere.

4th Playthrough, Do all of the Above.

So will there be destructible environments?

Incase you're expecting destruction like in the newer battlefield games, then NO. Now, MAYBE they'll have some destruction on a small scale due to dragons, which will sort of fix itself up in some way.

Go play your FPS.
Your list pretty much confirms you are a destructive person.

Destruction through dragons would be nice, but it's not on my top priority list.

I'm guessing trees will be destructible (and later restored in time) because otherwise dragon combat in forests may not work at all... and being a lumberjack would svck like crap.

Also, we know that the grass and such is somewhat destructible (when dragons crash for instance).
I'm pretty sure buildings and all that won't be destructible, due to this being an open RPG (which you play for a long time) and there being cell seperation. Perhaps some scripted destructible event though of course.

My main games are RPG's since Diablo 1 and Arena.

Yeah I play FPS's... Also, I'm destructive because I listed a few features? You're shallow man.

Futhermore, this was a joke. And a simple question.

If trees can be cut down, I want it to be realistic, not cut down in three swings or anything

It unlikely you will ever see this in an elder scrolls game because the world is very large and persistent. Game change on that level would result in 1gig+ save files. The only alternative is to have cells pop back to their original state after you leave but that would be just horrible like foot prints and tire tracks that disappear immediately. NTY.

If dragons crash that would be awesome, but it would take some serious work to make things destructible.
I think in the end, it's just not worth it to invest that much in time and money :/

Yeah, didn't see the joke on first sight. Sorry.
I believe there are people who seriously play like this.

It would be awesome if you could take a hatchet out into the forest and actually chop down trees and collect wood that way, with animations for the whole thing, but I highly doubt it

Sarkandar and his team did it with http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=oblivionmods.detail&id=1427, why shouldn't Bethesda be able to? ;)

You spelled his name wrong. :slap:

It's M'aiq the Liar. Not Mai'q The Liar.

Sadly, I do not think they will do that. It would be cool if you could have that sort of effect on the world, but I think most developers would be so fearful of "very stupid people" destroying things, but THEN complaining the missions do not work, the NPCs never show up, etc. The other problem is that would be a very complex leaving little time to make a GAME instead of just a sandbox.

In your scenario, you want to kill everyone, destroy everything, and raze the whole world, right. Sure, that sounds very cool, but wouldn’t you want the world to react to that as well? I know once I killed a village of people I would want a militia force organized to hunt me down. Were I to fire to a whole forest, I would want people from towns beating down the flames, cutting fire breaks, and mages casting water or rain spells? I would want soldiers combing the road for me if I wiped out a village! It is not really a game if there is no consequence for your actions in the world, so I would want big consequences for big actions. In addition, yes, if someone killed me for a big infraction like that I’d want it to be a game ender. Kill a few people or raze a few homes…that part of the game…kill everyone and everything the game should say, “Fine, the gloves are now off, but let’s see how long you last in a fair fight with guards after you and the NPCs undoing your misdeeds.”

Was it me imagining or did the dragon in the in the E3 preview leave a trail of destruction along the ground when it crash landed?

I thought that was pretty amazing if I wasn't seeing things.

M'aiq likes his fire not on fire and burning down. Makes it easier to sleep when it rains.

A better example of this happening can be seen in the official trailer.
