Main Quest time?

Post » Thu Jun 30, 2011 6:17 am

I have read http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1204827-skyrim-information-iii/page__hl__skyrim+information+iii that the main quest is 30 hours long.

Does this mean:

1. SPEEDRUN
If you ran through the quest, new were you was going (take the most direct route) and had a levelledish character it would take 30 hours.

2. EXPLORATION
You fumbled along at level 1, not particularly driven, never really played TES before, maybe went the wrong way a few times, sat and sorted out your items THEN it should take 30 hours.

If its the first AWESOME, its going to take me a week to complete the main story.

Think I did Oblivion MQ with a levelled character in a day. Don't quote me though.

Thoughts?

30 hours from the developer means 15 hours if you don't use fast travel, kill every mudcrab you see, and decide not to sprint

TES games really aren't about the main quest. I'm much more interested in the world and all the side stuff like factions and brotherhoods. As long as the main quest is around 30 hours long i'm happy.

Seems more like a pessimistic and opinion-based response, but, hey.....

None of us have played the game yet. No-one knows what the speedrun time is for the MQ.

Well an above posted said Oblivion's is supposed to be 20 hours and I beat it in 5. And half an hour of that was the opening tutorial

Yeah, I'll easily put in 90+ hours in Oblivion before I even think about the main quest. Partly due to Oblivion's MQ not being all that great in my opinion, but also because TES games are not about the MQ to me. I'm much more interested in the world and discovering everything I possibly can before I end up doing anything the game "wants" me to. Factions, dungeons, exploring.. are all priority to me when playing any TES game. If Skyrim's MQ is attractive enough, and it forces me to progress as a Dragonborn through the MQ in an elegant, desirable way, then I'm sure I'll find a nice balance till then.

But for now, I'll just wait and see :)

20 to 30 hours has been stated by multiple Bethesda employees, so I'd say it's safe to say somewhere around there, but probably closer to 20.

lol.

I don't play the MQ till about 30 hours (actual playtime) anyway. Even then I dive in and out again.

I like knowing there's still a main chunk of the MQ left, its very disappointing to pick back up the MQ again and complete it in about 4 hours, when you thought you had at least another 20 left.

Speed run sums up my babble of a sentence. Thanks!

You guys may not think the MQ is not a big deal in TES, but the Devs do, they state it as a selling point, Masseffect 1-2 linear games with next to nothing to do of which almost everything is geared to the MQ took me 20 hours as a whole to be for each game.

Be happy the TES series can do without the MQ and still keep you entertained.

I had over 100 hours in Oblivion before i went to go meet Jauffre, i plan on ignoring the MQ until i'm ready to tackle it.

Look at it this way. They said 15 - 20 hours for oblivion - how long did that actually take you? Now take that same percentage (of hours it actually took) and apply that to 30 hours, thats probably how long it will be. My guess is about 1.5x as long as oblivions main quest (IF you go and recruit all the town guards).
