Single armour piece: Cuirass/Greaves

Post » Thu Jun 30, 2011 4:28 am

All the "evidence" suggests that you can upgrade armor... as in the armor where the only part on your chest is some leather straps... your only pauldron is 100% leather... and your pants are simply fur... THEN... UPGRADE!!! Now there is a west under the straps, an iron piece covering the pauldron, and leather patches on the pans... THEN... UPGRADE!!! I don't recall the final upgrade picture perfectly but its a guy wearing the same armor but upgraded...

Above poster said: "will all the haters come back and apologize to Bethesda for prematurely bashing them without having their facts straight?"
I'd do it but I'm fairly sure I'm right in what I say... and that upgradeable armor isn't better than being able to chose not to wear a shirt... or to wear a leather cuirass with pants...

Guess my point was, has a representative from Bethesda actually come right out and said, "We have (or have not) combined cuirass and greaves into one solid piece of armour"? If they haven't released any information to clarify this, then every single one of us (for or against the idea) is just speculating. If they have come out with this info, then I apologize and would someone please provide the source so I can read more about it?

NO! Loot is the main thing that keeps me playing RPGs, and there is no good or acceptable way to streamline loot. They already took spears, halberds, crossbows, thrown ranged weapons, tantos, dai-katanas, wakizashi, and pauldrons from me, and now this? What's next? Combine armor sets with weapons?

No thank you. All armor pieces should be separate.

To add to that, there's http://nerdtrek.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/Skyrim-Dragon-Battle.jpg as well. Same fur grieves, but a chest plate this time along with what looks to be a metal addition to the pauldron we see in your picture. There seems to be a lot more customization going on than what people seem to think.

An upgrade system which seems to have visual effects if the spider hero helm and that left pauldron is anything to go by, along with an armor system that seems to allow more freedom than what Oblivion had. Grieves and the chest plate could very well have been merged to keep enchantment stacking down - and by going to a smithy we may be able to create our own versions of the armor or possibly pay a smithy to do it for us if said character doesn't want to increase that skill.

At the end of the day, we don't have all the information. So jumping to conclutions isn't going to get anyone anywhere. All we have are the pics and word of mouth. The pics show customization, one guy says the armor was condenced, and another says we don't have all the information. So at this point all we can do is wait for confermation about the smithing.

Thanks for the link. I've actually seen that video already. Seems like Ashley beat around the bush still not confirming either way if the greaves and cuirass are indeed combined into one single piece of armour. What I'm looking for is for someone from Bethesda to say, "Yes, they are combined" or "No, they are not combined, they are separate." Until then, we are still just giving our opinions on what Ashley was getting at. Then you have vsions (a BGS character animator) who refuted people's concerns by telling them

dont assume peoples ;) wait till you know for sure.

...why would he say that if greaves/cuirass were indeed combined? Right now it's all fairly ambiguous, IMO. I think we'll have to wait until the Q&A comes out to really get some answers on this.

The linked interview confirms less armor slots than Oblivion. The two links of different "fur" armor can easily be explained by a "tier 1" and "tier 2" fur type armor. While I have no issues with tier levels of armor, merging chest/greaves into one piece is the topic debated here.

And it shouldn't be really.

So we have the Production Director saying specifically one thing, while a Character Artist is telling us not to assume things.

See why we should really be having this discussion?

They're the same version of fur. http://files.g4tv.com/ImageDb3/271648_S/elder-scrolls-5-skyrim.jpg is likely the next teir of fur. And this has everything to do with the topic. The pics show that there is more customization going on, in one form or another. So even if the grieves and chest piece are combined - customizing what type goes where still seems to be an option. Even more so because we can choose to not have a chest piece if we dont want it.

If combining the cuirass and grieves and having the only way to customize them is at the smithy allows for more customization - then I'm all for it.

I read in the new Playstation Magazine that the cuirass and greaves are one piece of armor. It said that with the style of armors they were doing, the greaves were barely visible so they combined them.

i wouldn't want them combined but in terms of aesthetics it honestly wouldn't bother me in the long run if you got gloves boots and pauldrons to mess around with.

http://files.g4tv.com/ImageDb3/271648_S/elder-scrolls-5-skyrim.jpg is Nordic armor, its already been said that each race will have their own style of armor.

But i agree that the customizing at the smith is a great idea.
