The Music of Skyrim

Post » Fri Jul 01, 2011 2:27 am

Okay Well I just watched a video on Youtube showing some of the music of Skyrim. And yes the song gave me goosebumps. Honestly it was awesome but heres my only problem with it. I would like to see some simpler music also. True the songs great but one thing that I think makes games like Zelda great is when you can learn them yourself. I'm an Avid musician and when i hear a song I like(especially off a video game I love) I want to be able to learn that song on the Piano or Guitar. Songs like that are much to complicated and don't have the simple melody of songs such as Zelda's Lullaby. I'm not saying change the song but add some music that can be learned. Musicians will agree with me, but how awesome is it when your hanging out with friends and your in the mall perhaps and walk in a music store and sit down and play something they all know like Zelda or Halo. I'd like Skyrim a mix of both huge songs that require and orchestra to sound good but also some simplistic melodic songs, that soon as you hear your recognize, even if you didn't play the game. I think sometimes Simpler songs are more memorable. Anyway what's your opinion of this?

From what I've heard of Skyrim's music (3 or so songs from a clear audio version of the E3 demo) it sounded amazing. In regards to the first poll, I've loved every bit of TES music I've heard.

... I play the Elder Scroll's themes on my baritone all the time. It's very simple, but memorable... and please fix typeface, I don't like LARGE WALL O TEXT!

Why do people insist on changing the format of their posts?

Revision of the old theme for Skyrim (which they did) and all newworld/battle/town/etc music (which they are)

Problem?

I agree about the simple songs for things like towns and exploring, but for battles I like that intense stuff where when that music plays you know the [censored] has hit the fan... ES usually has that, except for the battle music thing. I only really liked one battle track from OB and I had to add others in to spice it up a bit.

The simple songs kind of zone you out a bit while you're riding your horse to kill the dragon lich of doom or whatever, calms things down.

Do you play bari-sax or the Euphonium?

On topic: The main theme I think is perfect since its new, but still has that really awesome theme started in Morrowind

I really like the music I just think they need to have more variety.
Maybe for the local tavern they can have like a cantina themed song playing.
And when your in a cave it plays dark eerie music.
Etc.

I love being able to play the themes to ES games on guitar, I've been trying to learn Skyrim's theme but I can't quite get it. I'm bad at experimenting, so I'm waiting for someone to tab it :P

It might be the land of the nords but it might also be the game of unrecognizable and unmemorable music.

How is it unrecognizable? When you hear that theme, you will immediately think of Skyrim. It even has some MW music in it.

How is it unmemorable? Is melodic music more memorable to you? My friend, it's called personal taste. I believe that this music is WAY more memorable than Oblivion's melodic, generic music.

click the link in my original post. That guy nailed it. Its not a taste preference its science. Melodic music has less tones and so therefore is more memorable, because a human can only think of one tone at a time. just check the link.

I honestly loved both morrowind's and Oblivion's themes.
and in case you never noticed, skyrim is a mix of morrowind and oblivion, plus its own unique style. if you can't find Reign of the Septims in the Skyrim theme, I would advise you listen to the opening when the trumpets really start, then listen to the chanting in the Skyrim theme

pretty clear theres some incredibly mellow and ambient music in it too
the melody when the PC was walking around at the start of the E3 demo was really simple, relaxed, and tranquil

Love the music of old Elder Scrolls game's. To this day the Morrowind theme is my favorite piece of music of all time, Oblivion theme also being one of my favorite.(and just today while reading a book in Oblivion I marveled at the background music) I expect the music to be awesome once again and have no worries whatsoever about that.(Even less worries then about the quality of the game itself) I do not really need anything changed because I love it how it is, but Skyrim music has to have it's own feel to it, just like Morrowind and Oblivion had theirs.

I think it's coming off like I want to completely change the music but no. The themes are awesome and music is awesome but I would like some simple super recognizable music, that even people who didn't play the game would know. Maybe a song called "Song of the Dragon" that would be beautiful, memorable, and simple to play. No company has ever done it like zelda and mario....

Lol my favorite song from Skyrim so far would probably be the E3 demo battle song that plays during the second dragon fight, when the chorus starts in.

Even though I loved the Morrowind theme I only really liked one other track on the soundtrack. The rest was not bad just boring to me. Oblivion's main theme was not near as good but the other tracks were much better than Morrowinds.

My favorite all time track for a game was always the main theme to never winter nights 1, that was until I heard the Skyrim main theme. The brief portion on the teaser trailer sent chills down my spine even if I can't hum it and the entire theme finally shown during the video of the bulding being painted with the Skyrim character was the definition of epic. I was worried the rest of the music would not live up to it but the song played during the video of the concept art being drawn was great and the battle music during the E3 demo especially the last track when fighting the frost dragon was brilliant.

The heavy harsh drums and chanting choir style being used i think will immerse me a lot more then previous TES games. there should be some areas were the music is more calm and quieter with a slower pace sure but it should fit the overall theme of the game not seem out of place.

So far the Skyrim music especially the main theme makes me feel like I need to find a big axe and suit up for battle which is exactly what it should do.

One of the tunes in the E3 footage really got to me it sounded like someone passed out on an organ or something. I might not have been able to hear it well though. Overall I think the music in the series is fine. Some of it's just typical fantasy stuff but other tunes do stick out to me. I like his work in these games as well as Secret of Evermore so I'm not worried about it.
