Player mods on console

Post » Fri Jul 01, 2011 12:26 am

Do you think there's any chance for player mods to be ported to consoles? At all? Through some sort of ranking, voting, or donation system? Modders make some great stuff, but I'm guessing my laptop will only be able to play Skyrim for 20 minutes before melting my graphics card so I'm thinking I'll be stuck on the 360. Of course, the thing I'll miss the most is the mods. If only there were a way to get that content on XBLA.

Todd does seem to want that and they have been talking to microsoft and sony, however I doubt you'll see it for this gen. Todd does not mention a way to port mods to consoles in his interview with notch here:

Todd Howard said he wants consoles to have mods, but Microsoft and Sony aren't so "agreeable".

He said that he would like a way players on the consoles could play mods on their consoles like a "file-sharing system".
Though their isn't enough time for this to be in Skyrim it might be added later if we are lucky.

Think of it this way, your lucky you experienced Oblivion with mods, my computers so crap it can't even run Oblivion.

Apparently the idea is being explored (as mentioned above) but it won't be something that is available at release of Skyrim.

Probably Bethesda who select from popular mods, they have to check so it don’t overtax systems or create bugs. Then contacting the creator to get a permission, a second check, then put up for download.
No big technical problems, will probably use a variation of the system who is used for DLC who is no different from mods.

Yeah that the best chance consoles will get mods. Still it makes me a big ticked off that people work hard making this mods to reward people that are not cheap skates. Only for Bethesda to reward the console players with their mods.

I mean really mods is why you buy the pc copy. It bad enough my PC games are now the same price as console gaming. Please do not take away the only other perk I have. Go sony and Microsoft smash this idea like the incredible hulks you are.

Well on the bright side. I can now build a top of the line basic pc for the same price as a console. Basic as in Mother board, Ram, CPU, Hard Drive and Video Card. Dvd readers and pc monitor would cost extrea. Still it so nice to know for about 400 dollars you can make a full high quilty pc. Glad the hardware price has dropped alot.

Ram

mods not compatible due to custom high quality assets.

PC modders malicious scripts for lulz

Consoles cost the same as pc's in the long run...seeing as you need a PC anyways.

So if you want mods you choose PC
if you dont you choose console.

If you chose console then you obviously dont want mods.

IS bethesda going to spend money Q&A the mods
Is bethesda microsoft sony going to spend money hosting the mods

Console companies dont know this word "free."

I always do TLDR responses so this is just a quick bullet points.

Also should the 1999 honda civic have the same features as the brand new ferrari.

I predict this will end in tears.

As consoles are fond of telling me (vociferously and incessantly,) they like stuff that "just works." You can tell that modding's never been done on consoles before, because there's no way in hell they'd be begging for mods if they really insist of stuff that "just works."

With that attitude, I'm sure TES Nexus is gonna be a fun place to be around after Skyrim...
