What are Tes players favorite bands?

Post » Fri Jul 01, 2011 10:49 am

I am just curious as to what type of music Tes players are into maybe we share common ground.

Personally I like heavier rock like Korn, Tool, Pantera, Metallica, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Slipknot, Mushroomhead, and a little Kid Cudi (Newest Album only)

Well, i am into many genres, but mostly Black Metal, in the not-so-extreme way.

To name a few bands (Though it is hard):
Exiled From Light (Dark, a little downtempo black metal, from New Zealand).
Funeral Mourning (Very slow, haunting tones, from Australia).
Nortt (Very down-tempo, haunting, and a little ambient, from Denmark. Some of the songs, like Hjems?gt (Haunted, in english), are perfect for TES games!).
Trancelike Void (Hypnotic, Acoustic instrumental Black metal, from Belgium. Can recommend this to anyone! Especially Ghost Mountain).

Else, i really like Buckethead. An instrumental guitar virtuoso, who excels in both relaxing acuostic melodies, and up to lightning speed scales. Listen to the Acoustic Shards album. He recorded it, while he was... 13, i think?

I could ramble on for a 100 more bands, litteraly, but i think this should be enough, so you actually don't get tired reading (hopefully listening).

And then you could go on, listening to the 50 other albums, by the Bucket! I haven't heard more than full 10 of his albums, at least not much.

Since you're from Denmark, you should have added Angantyr, I'm sure you just forgot for a moment there.

I'm into (mostly proper Norwegian) black metal as well, though in the very extreme way. Other genres I like are (Swedish) death metal (that's Sadist King's fault), viking metal, (old school/blackened) trash metal like Kreator and Aura Noir, folk metal (but rarely the Finnish kind) and regular, real folk like the songs of the brilliant musician Harald Foss. I could also listen to someone playing hardanger fiddle all day.

Nice taste. Yeah, i totally forgot Angantyr! I listen to one of the other bands by him. It has a quite teenage-ish name, but don't get fooled, Make A Change... Kill Yourself, is his one-man project, of the genre Depressive Black Metal. I have a friend, who knows Jakob Zabrobelny (Yup, the man behind those 2 bands), now you know why he names himself Ynleborgaz, if you didn't.

Angantyr is sadly not very well known. Most people that even have heard that name before, knows it from the oldest known king of Denmark.

Since you are Norwegian, you must know Burzum. I actually have an original CD copy, of the Daudi Baldrs album, a 2nd press of Det Som Engang Var (They're already getting worth some pennies), and i just bought the Filosofem LP, today.

But nice to know, that there are others on this board, who listens to Black Metal. There aren't many, at least not in Denmark... They don't get ANY publicity.

I can't think of any bands or music popular where I live. I listen to a variety of whatever I like... which primarily amounts to a bunch of Arabic music (mostly Lebanese and Egyptian) with some Japanese, French, and video game soundtracks.

Well, i know those two bands, but i really don't like Lamb of God. Tool can be okay from time to time. I nearly detest Korn, to be honest. Death Metal, and Punk fusioned with metal, aren't my cup of tea. Only sometimes.

I think there is a korn stereotype, so many people hate them just from hearing things about them and mental images, when in reality they are really good and can touch emotions like few other bands can. Also like i said the songs tend to svck untl you get used to them, then they bocome awesome. I hated about half the songs on each album until i heard them about 5 times then bam i was hooked for a while.

However i seem to have bad taste in music generally liking bands others dont.

I'm sad Tool and Korn are ever being categorized together. I love Tool, but Korn is a completely different story. Typically, Tool songs discuss philosophy and metaphysics and generally deep things, Korn usually discusses teen angst.

I listen to a lot of metal as well. Heavy, doom, and black. Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Solitude Aeturnus, My Dying Bride, Comatose Vigil, Mayhem, Immortal, Bathory.

I listen to a lot of stuff though. I really love classical and smooth jazz.

I also can't help but feel that this topic does not belong here, as TES hasn't been discussed once in this thread. To pretend to fix that, I'd like to say that I don't think musical tastes in people who like TES are going to be all that similar. TES fans come in all shapes and sizes and musical tastes.

I, as a black metal fan, am more used to hearing about being mentally ill, it is nearly a part of Suicidal/Depressive black metal (Just google some things of Silencer, and Nattramn. That is just creepy stuff, though much of it is obviously fake rumours).
The more mysterious an artist is, the more exciting that person gets.

My music taste, is what 99% of people think is noise. But personally, i don't think anyone has bad taste. If they like it, they must hold on to it, rather than like music, just to be "like the others".

Nice taste, especially My Dying Bride, Mayhem, and Immortal.
I noted at least one of my bands, as being good for TES, as i thought it should have some connection.

Honestly i think korn is one of the top bands of the 90s early 2000s and deserves to be in the likes of all of the above it is far removed from simple teenage angst and delves into the realm of suicide, depression, hate, and some wierder things like obsessions and sick desires and its use is to overcome or embrace those feelings however the song strikes you i guess. I am happy that we have a tool fan on here though i think they could be one of the best bands in a while even though ive grown sick of it.

Oh yeah, come to think of it, the German Avantgarde metal band, Fjoergyn, fits totally to TES.
Listen to Auf Bald, from the Jahreszeite album. The lyrics tend to be a lot about nature, though in German.
I feel lucky, that i can some German, though i have only had it in school, for half a year, but i got better grades, than rest of my class. I am going to learn it fluent, throught the next years (Part of gymnasium here).

of all the bands youve listed what do u think i should listen to if u had to choose one? I'm looking for something heavier but still has sometype of rythym and flow i guess.

Well, if you can stand some light growls, then Lifelover - Alltid - Aldrig, would be perfect, as it is both dark, but is very rythmic.
If you can't stand his growls... Well, that is nearly the "lightest" i tend to hear.

I'd call Pantera fast-paced, but light. Lamb of God... Well, Death Metal growls, are very far apart from what i listen to. Most of my favourite bands, tend to either Moan, or generally has some dark, obscure, depressed tone.
Silencer - Death, Pierce Me, to me, is some of the most agonizing you can expect (I like it, though.).
