What do you mean you don't like horses

I'm gonna be playing a Khajiit so I won't be using one. Kitty needs to stretch her legs

i'm all for horses as long as they don't look as crappy as the little stupid pudgy pony in the demo.

I hate horses in almost all games, they're clunky and take me out of combat. The only game that's done them well has been Red Dead Redemption in my opinion. In real life horses creep me out. Their big wild eyes, all their veins in their face and their giant hideous teeth.

That being said I don't care if they're in the game, I'll just walk, unless they're REALLY well done, but it didn't look that impressive.

Wha? Sorry, I love horses, they're awesome. Cheers to you that don't though, it's just a preference thing. :D

Anyways, if you hate them, I'm sure they won't be an unavoidable gameplay element, so just don't go looking for them and you'll be alright. :)

I have pretty much never used the horses in Oblivion. I did a bit when I started playing it, but not anymore. It's simply just annoying and cumbersome.

Two Worlds horses were slightly better because you could use them as a mobile storage solution.

Mount and Blade and Red Dead Redemption are the only games I've played with horses in them that are actually any good, in terms of controls and usefulness.

EDIT: I expect to probably play Skyrim much the same way, my character will get everywhere by the speed of his own two feet or fast travel options. Having to dismount to pick alchemy ingredients as well as fight is annoying.

Even the lackluster horses in OB had a use. No mounted combat, now thats the terrible news.

Hi new here to the forums!

I think honestly horses could be improved in three (maybe simple) ways!

1. saddlebags. (probably going to mod this myself)
2. what if the attack button caused the front of your horse to rear and hit in front of it with its hooves? the other attack button would be like a dual-wield where the horse instead lashes out BEHIND it!
3. from what I understood from Oblivion speed it was calculated using Speed + Athletics which would = X value. the problem was X value overtook the Horse's Y value. But what if the Y value ALWAYS was 2 time as fast as the X value then horses would never be redundant. (Basically Movespeed X = a(Speed) + b(Athletics ; Horsemovespeed Y = X * 1.5 ; Yes i am aware this is not the actual equation but I rather oversimplified it)

I recently came across a post about horses, and it seems that there are some of you out there that don’t like horses. In fact, one individual went so far as to say that they were afraid of horses even more so then they were of giant spiders. To this first of all I would like to say WHAT! Secondly, if you find that you have the fear of horses in common with that person then maybe this game is not for you. Needless to say I love horses and I think that without them the game would be very much lacking, so I am very thrilled that there are horses. It would be nice though if horses are not the only rideable creatures in Skyrim, a Mammoth mount would be very cool, however, if it is that horses are indeed the only mounts it would not bother me as much as if there were no horses at all.

I like horses in the game and I love horses in real life. But I can't ride the horses in Oblivion because each time I do it makes me throw up.

So, yeah add some horses but don't expect me to ride them.

I think they should do horses with mounted combat or not at all. Why do we need an auxiliary form of transportation? we already have fast travel(possibly and more than likely). . . It took an untold amount of time that could have been spent on something that would be used in the game.

My character will be on a steady horse meat diet, so I can become the prophesied UberDovahkiin!

I agree with the general sentiment that the horse system in OB was so clumsy that it's made me wary of horses in any future TES games. However, I also tend to steer clear of horses in games because they are cute, and I feel responsible for them, and it would make me sad if my horse died.

I was raised in rural America around horses. Frankly, I like them.

I used them in Oblivion because I like horses, and I enjoyed riding them, or using them as pets/companions, regardless of their effeciency.

I will use them in Skyrim because I like them, and like riding them, etc. I will use them regardless if their effeciency.

As someone who has never used fast travel, it's nice to know there's another alternative to going on foot.

Roleplaying purposes for the most part. Though since athletics was apparently one of the skills that was nixed in this game, I wouldn't be surprised if they made it so that horses are finally faster than the player regardless of their speed. Horses in Oblivion, while nice from a roleplaying perspective, were just useless once you reached anything higher than a sixty in the speed stat. That would give them more of a purpose for those who dislike fast travel, but don't want to lug themselves around the world at a horrendously slow pace.

I don't hate them. I love animals. Even if they aren't meaningful at all who cares? It still brings a little bit of a mid-evil sense. In plus, the only wrong thing they can do is remove it despite the people who think it is worthless. Who knows? Someone out there might actually like using the horses in Oblivion.

horses, although poorly implemented in Oblivion, are necessity in Skyrim. Todd Howard even said that the world would feel wierd without them. They will be especially useful for those who want to travel long distances without fast-travelling (thats right, fast travel is not the ONLY solution) and remember that athletics has been taken out. So thery're definitely useful for those who want to travel faster than they can walk or want more immersion in a game that people are worried is being too dumbed down. My only fear is that, with the horse in the demo moving VERY unnaturally, they will look horrible unless they can atleast match RDR horses (which looks doubtful at this point). And for those who are scared of horses, well ????????

get on horse, run, find something to fight, get off horse, kill thing, get back on, rinse and repeat.

it'll be nice to have them around, but tbh i'm more likely to use shank's mare anyway.

LOL

Well I agree in oblivion horses were rather substandard in most regards but with mods they were great actually. Much better controls, faster, immortal (if you like), ten times better looking and more diversity. The only that was missing was mounted combat... Getting off the horse just to fight a wolf was annoying but could be avoided. With the above mods installed one could simply keep running until the wolf gives up after a while.

No, I can't ride them with mods, I can't ride things like horses in games because really, they do make me physically ill. Something to do with equilibrium or something almost like car sickness. Otherwise I did like the horses in Oblivion. Red Dead Redemption was no better. :(

A guy I work with wasn't even going to buy the game unless they had mountable horses, it's a whole big RP thing for him. Me personally I could care less, since they are in great, I might use one on occasion. I walked/ran most of the time in OB though anyway.

didn't need mods for that tbh anyway.

actually, you didn't even need a horse to outrun enemies in oblivion :P

but if you intentionally go looking for fight after fight the on/off/on/off is irritating, boring, and not - for me - very immersive. there are times i'll use them, just for the sake of it, but i'll not be looking for them :)
