Plantations

Post » Fri Jul 01, 2011 1:27 pm

I would like to see a return to plantations and farms that are just not found ever hundred miles or so. I want to see slaves
working the fields , bodygaurds in watchtowers, and the lord sipping mead in his manor.
I would like to see detail in it.
Tell me what you think?

I'm pretty sure there is no legal slavery in Skyrim. Things might have changed in the past two hundred years, but last I checked Morrowind was the province with a history of slavery - not Skyrim.

Yes but dont forget there was slavery in Skyrim at some point and now the empire is dessolved and civil war is in skyrim and it might return to the old ways.
There is a possibility of Slavery becoming legal on the opposition sides but not the imperial side. It will also add a twist to the civil war.

dont think it works with skyrim lore or custom
morrowind way back when, sure cause it fit dark elf customs and whatnot
skyrim, out-of-place and awkward in my opinion

This ain't Morrowind. I'd rather not have slave ran plantations, not to mention the dunmer were ran off by a former slave race. It's also not much of a nord thing to have slaves. Heck, the institution of slavery is pretty much a mer thing, save for bosmer.

Slaves might work in the general area of the dunmer settlement. Maybe.

The dunmer have been horrifically emasculated by being abandoned by the Tribunal, the "good" daedra and the nerevarine during nordic raids and the Oblivion Crisis, followed by being nuked, then stomped on and forced out to nordic lands by the argonians.

I don't think many, if any, dunmer institutions are going to survive this great change, especially with the biggest slave holders, likely, being stomped out completely by the argonians, as the Dres do live in southern Morrowind.

Plantations are made possible by slaves. No slaves = farms. Morrowind had plantations to emphasize the slavery aspect of the game, Skyrim however doesn't seem like a place with slavery to me.

Just because slavery may be illegal in Skyrim, doesn't mean it won't happen.

I hope to see some kind of slavery in Skyrim, be it plantations, mining or in less favorable forms. (Argonians kidnapping Dumner women for 'entertainment' purposes as revenge for the slavery enforced on them in the past prehaps). Could lead to some interesting side quests.

Ya know, I doubt the argonian's main reason for beating the snot out of the dunmer was due to slavery. A much more likely reason would be the dunmer felling a few Hist. Gotta learn that the argonians do not think like men or mer, but through the eyes of the Hist. After all, they are, pretty much, an extension of the Hist.

So you can't have sharecropper or slavery due to fact it been 200 years.

There are plantations in alaska (or whatever skyrim is an anologue of)

but seriously, beyond subsistance farming there should be much.

It sounds like a fascinating idea for a mod, especially considering the more dynamic economy system of Skyrim.

For example, it has been reported that farmers actually generate in-game items when performing their farming animations, and they transport these goods to merchants for, presumably, some sort of exchange of gold adding new items to the merchant's inventory.

There could be a very interesting quest mod involving a faction of slavers, slave merchants and this vile industry, assuming there is no slavery in the vanilla game.

With the new emphasis on being able to do everything that the townspeople do, I'm pretty confident that there will be some detailed plantations. Now about the slave thing... I don't think that sounds like a good idea.
