Nobility

In oblivion they were going to make a faction that was called nobility which could allow you to join and progress through the ranks until you reach the duke of colovia.
I am hoping they will implement such a faction in Skyrim. You will start off as a low knight or in the service of a lord and make your way up to being a county official
or possibly the lord of a farming community.
Tell me what do you think.

in the middle of a civil war? might be difficult to implement. especially if (as i hope) you aren't tied into one side or the other unless you want to be.

i'd rather see the rest of the game be polished, tbh.

It'll give us a faction of people that's actually worth Robbing, so yeah I'm all for it.

Having the nobilety seem like actual nobilety would be nice, and I think it should be possible to be a part of that, but I don't think the posistion of a duke, count of similar would be entirely possible to be made so it feels right. The choises in how you would lead your lands would for one probably be quite limited, not suiting the intentions of many characters.

I love the whole idea of royalty and nobility. I think all the politicking and intrigue are fascinating, and I'm hoping there will be at least some instance of that in Skyrim. However, I voted "yes, but with limits" because I'm uncomfortable with the idea of "working your way up" into the nobility--after all, that sort of thing is usually hereditary. I would love to be able to choose a lord to serve and work my way up in his ranks, but I'm not so sure about actually taking the throne. Definitely a good concept, though.

The shivering Isles took care of that but It won't work in Skyrim.

The more factions the better.

Necromancers, Traders, Hunters, Druids, Alchemists or whatever... Yes to all.

I don't think the player should actually become nobility, rather work for a noble or someone who has aspirations to become nobility. For one if the player was actually Nobility then from a lore standpoint it would be hard to say why there was an Argonian ruler in a Skyrim hold, also from a gameplay standpoint it would be to constricting if Beth created a believable system for Nobility. I'd prefer a cross of Daggerfall's Nobility system with Morrowind's Great House system, while restricting the player from gaining too high of a position.

It could be intergrated i the Radiant Story: The Bretons, Nords, Imperials and Dunmer(yes dunmer, a dunmer city is more or less confirmed) could become "real" nobles while the other races get more restrictions and would have to work more behind the scenes.

I would love a proper title like Duke(my preference) but as I mentioned it would probably be hard to add any meaningful gameplay to it.

The Dunmer were a rather xenophobic and insular culture on the whole. The Telvanni more so than any other Great House. Nonetheless, an outlander Argonian could rise to the top of their ranks.

This was written into their tenets of the Vvardenfell Telvanni who were admittedly more 'modern' then their mainland colleagues and in the case of the great houses, they are based on a system where everyone in the House has the ability to rise and fall , and everyone can join the house. In the case of Nordic Nobility, it is based on heredity. Regardless, the Telvanni it still has the fundamental flaw all sandbox games have when they hand players the position of power - that it is not believable. Why did the player not interact with the mainland houses? Even with the Mouths doing most of the work surely the player would have some administrative duties to attend to. Whats the point have having this "power" when the player does not feel or even grasp this "power?"

Being the Dragonborn, aren't you technically royalty? The Dovahkiin stems from the Septims (I think)

I'm all with the addition of factions. My single biggest worry that is becoming stronger with each interview is that the game will only have 4 factions aside from the main quest. This was completely unacceptable in Oblivion and will be unacceptable in Skyrim as well.

Having the nobility system and the ability to become a Duke/Baron/Earl etc. would be very interesting if woven into the Civil War questline. Perhaps you could invade an opposing hold and become its new ruler through the sword? Or maybe the title could be bestowed upon you by your faction for meritorious service?

I just hope that if you can become nobility, that it actually has an effect on your character. Being able to customize your hold and its guards would be a nice touch, as would some randomly generated quests befitting your status (a rival challenges you to a dual, an opposing hold sends a raiding party against you or vice versa, etc.)

I said yes, but I'm not thinking of royalty, so much as the ability to choose sides in the civil war. I don't want to support the Empire automatically. I hate the Empire. I've been waiting for it to collapse. Now that it is, I want to help stamp it out while merrily singing and spilling half my mug of mead on myself.
