Artifacts, bland or legendary?

Post » Fri Jul 01, 2011 9:55 pm

Here is a reference of Oblivion artifacts,

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Artifacts

Some of the legendary weapons/ armour listed here are well designed however i feel many of them could have been designed better for being rare. For example, goldbrand just looks like a simple Katana sword when it is one of the most powerful one handers in the game.

Don’t get all indiana jones and the last crusade on me here, I know any decent weapon/ armour might not have to be diamond encrusted to be good. But for legendary artefacts i expected something more.

That was a 2006 game, so you never know. I love artifacts myself, hopefully we get to meet some Daedric princes again

it all depends. in most cases, having it look unique would be cool, but a few would actually be better looking ordinary.

I don't think they should make the weapons flashy or anything, at least not the blade. They could do something with the hilt etc. but still they shouldn't make it too extravagant.

Well goldbrand has always been a somewhat normal looking katana, the only difference being it's gold. I'm happy with the way the artifacts look now, really. I've always thought they had a unique feel to them.

I generally like the look of the daedric artifacts. I want them to be recognize by appearance rather than just name because I think that Beth has it mostly right. Goldbrand could use a bit of a different look, I wouldn't mind seeing it with a thicker blade since it's supposed to be a very powerful, destructive weapon. Still, after five years, the texture and meshes will be a whole lot better, and so I expect to see changes along those lines.

With the customization that is smithing (from what I know/believe), I think there will be more different weapons, not just generic "Iron sword", "Dwarven axe" etc, more like "Dwarven sword w/ Elven handle" and so on. This will cause many more combinations to begin with and it will be easier for them to make more unique (as in appearance, not attributes) weaponry and armor.

Wonders if the Ebony Blade will actually be Ebony.

Auriel's Bow better be in and look like the ancient bow it is.

Chrysamere should be the most beautiful sword in the game.

Speaking as an Daggerfall/Arena veteran, these artifacts are a must and need to be done justice.

I would like to see Scourge look a little better. I liked the look of the original mace more than it.

Damn right. You get the Ring of Namira, which reflects damage and spells, you ain't gonna say to her " that's lovely and all, but do you do one in green? Matches my eyes you know."

I think some of artifacts could have looked better and more unique.
For instance, I wish Gold Brand had thicker blade with high-gloss deep golden color.
Spell breaker was a bit odd - looked like part of Star Wars rather than Elder Scroll.
I loved the golden gears from SI. Daedric artifacts looked like a crap in comparison.
IMO, Legion armor looked way better than all the high-level armors. Dragon armor was kinda lame.
Shield of Chorrol would have looked better if texture was more detailed and had tesselation.
Chillend was bland. Loved Amulet of Spell drinker. Savior's Hide was pretty good.
Umbra could use some improved design. I think the Mask was OK though.

I kind of rushed the post so ill explain a tad more. I am not talking about having legendary artefacts looking "pretty". I am talking about making them look like they have hidden power or something that is truly unique and not just a different colour or a slightly edited version of an existing weapon/ armour piece. Which is, at the end of the day, what the majority of past artefacts have been made up of.

Damn right. You get the Ring of Namira, which reflects damage and spells, you ain't gonna say to her " that's lovely and all, but do you do one in green? Matches my eyes you know."

Yeah that ring looks good but I have 100 rings that looks exactly like it except for a tiny detail :P Again, it doesn’t have to be pretty, but a new/ different design would at least make the artefacts truly unique.
