OBSE v20 not working with Steam

Post » Sat Jul 02, 2011 9:45 pm

Hi,

I just installed the Steam version of Oblivion GOTY Deluxe and wanted to use a few of the fantastic mods out there.

Most of those require OBSE. So I got the latest version (obse v20 -> obse_1_2_416.dll, obse_steam_loader.dll) and installed it according to the readme. However, when running Oblivion either through Steam or by executing Oblivion.exe, OBSE fails to load. There isn't even a logfile.

I already tried using the third-party obse_loader.exe from '09, but of course that doesn't play with the new dll.

I'm running a Vista (32bit) machine, all Oblivion exe files have compatibility set to 'run as Administrator'.

Can someone post a way I could try to get OBSE running?

You need to enable steam community or obse won't run properly. Don't ask why. Steam -> Settings -> In-Game -> Enable Steam Community In-Game.

Yep, that's enabled as well. :(

Also, it seems that Steam Community flat out doesn't work with Oblivion GotY. Which would probably account for OBSE not working.

Anybody else experiencing this?

I'm a Steam user and I have a flawless install with over 200 active mods including many that require OBSE 20. Have you installed Steam outside of Program Files? I would strongly reccomend you do this since you are running Vista and it's UAC is even more picky the Win 7s. You can use this https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7418-YUBN-8129 to help you do this if you have already installed Steam to Program Files.

Also I would like to ask if you definitely have all of the required files for Steam OBSE ("obse_1_2_416.dll", "obse_steam_loader.dll", AND "obse_editor_1_2.dll" - I have to ask since you didn't mention that one) and that they are installed in the /steam/steamapps/common/oblivion directory.

I hope this helps.

Artorius.

Negative. I've had the Deluxe GotY edition since it first came out on Steam, with 100+ mods and various versions of OBSE. The in-game community works fine, as does OBSE. Can you double-check to make sure you have the Steam Community feature enabled? Go to Steam -> Settings -> In-Game tab. There should be a checkbox for "Enable Steam Community In-Game"; make sure that's ticked off.

I would also second others recommendations to move your Steam install to somewhere outside the Program Files folder, particularly as you're using mods. And Vista. Moving your install might actually solve your problems.

Also, to run OBSE v20 properly you should have the following files running around loose in your Steam\steamapps\common\oblivion folder:

obse_1_2_416.dll
obse_editor_1_2.dll
obse_steam_loader.dll

They do not go in the Data Files folder, just the \oblivion folder.
