I want a new race

No huge explanation is needed. Bethesda can simply add them and say it is a new option for the player. NPC's usually have reacted to the player based on things like personality and fame/infamy. This has been handled by game mechanics. So no new programming would be required.

Let me deal with this "lore" issue that keeps being brought up. If the only "good" dremora is the player character, then lore is not affected at all. To illustrate: There were 10 playable races and two genders of same in Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion. I finished the main quest with two different races represented. If we add in all players who played the main quest, then it is likely that all 10 races were represented. When the "official lore" of the Oblivion Crisis comes out (probably as in game books in TES V) the Champion of Cyrodill (if same even acknowledged) will either be one race and gender or they could be deliberately vague and give no specific about same. What any individual player does in their game has no effect on the so-called "official lore." Assuming commercial success for TES V and the doing TES VI, when they do the official lore (history) of the "Dovakiin" they either will have to pick one race and gender or be deliberately vague. It doesn't matter what race or type character any player picks to play vis a vis "official lore."

If there were other non-hostile dremora in game besides the player character, then that would need explanation (this could again be handled by an in game book to give the backstory) . These are relatively easy tweaks for a product coming out in a few months.

Here is another thing about Dremora compared to some other proposed races: If dremora are in the game in any form, then the graphics for them is already done. Adding a dremora as a playable option could be as simple as checking a box in the constuction set. Anything that would require major new script writing is proabably too late for them to make their street date in November. If they don't already have the graphics for dremora in game, then it would be too late to add them in (with any scripting) and do testing to make their street date. I have yet to see one objective reason why they should not be made a playable option (if they are already in game in some form).

Playing a dremora would be possible, of course, and basically that's what you are saying. But, once again, if you don't even give a reason of why the PC dremora hasn't any problem with anyone and why he is cool with humans... the character doesn't make any sense. There is no reason to include something like that. Commercial succes? I seriously doubt that more people would buy the game.... just for having the option to play (inoherently) as a dremora.

Adding more non-hostile dremora, turning the race in "friendly" NPCs would be a stinky bad idea. As I have said, most of us prefer them as the badass demons they are now.

I'm sure people with make mods to make it possible. It has been like that in the previous two games (because, as you have said, making dremoras playable is really easy, from the Construction Set), but for the original game? No. It would be as logical as letting you play as a Mudcrab.

Mudcrab has only two skills, one pincered and shell, and shell is just heavy armour with less customsation, so is an obvious sign of dumbing down. The playable mudcrab is only possible because of pandering to fps fans.

There's enough races as is, there just needs to be a great amount of detail loving made into them. Also, adding races willy nilly is rather silly. The Imperials and Orsimer have an explanation at least that doesn't require major finagling or disregard for lore. The orcs got a hold of a giant, time ignoring, golem god, and used it to be recognized as imperial citizens. The imperials were always around, just unplayable till MW.

There really are not any other races that'd fit in nicely currently, save for the Tcsaeci perhaps, and possibly the Igma if the game was based in Valenwood.

Also, mods don't stop you!

I have yet to see one objective reason why they should not be made a playable option (if they are already in game in some form).

1. A Dremora doesn't fit with the "anonymous prisoner" starting point, so a new backstory must be created. The reasons for this are clear in the Lore, and have been repeated enough in this forums. I agree, the lore can change, but a good explanation would be necessary. If a Lord of the rings game presented an http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uruk-hai as a race that could roam the world anonymously, take skooma and even become the ultimate hero, a good explanation would be necessary too, right?

2. A lot of specific dialogue should be created for the dremora race, again, the reasons for this are clear in the lore. Most Skyrim inhabitants have never seen a Dremora, but are used to the other races. How would you react to a Dremora if he entered your local pub?

Let's take a look at some http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Nord (disposition between 30 and 70)
"I take it you want something. Well, what is it."
"May the wind be on your back."
"Head on."

If a Dremora with 30-70 disposition is met by a guardsman, and he greets you like this, the game would feel broken.

3. Some of the quests wouldn't make any sense. If I get into a tavern with my Demora character and get asked right away to go and save someones sister, the game would feel broken. You could argue if my Dremora get's his fame level high enough, he could be trusted by commoners, true, but... that means changing how the quests work.

It just seems too much effort for just one new playable race... :foodndrink:

I think the races are fine as they are, 10 is certainly enough. However, maybe it would be cool to be able to blend races? For example have a half elf, half human character that receives only part of the bonus that each race gets if they were 'pedigree' so to speak.

We've already covered this in numerous threads, sorry. Read http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Notes_on_Racial_Phylogeny

People say that a new race wouldn't go with the lore, but Bethesda could add a new race if they wanted by just saying they're from an unknown land or the lived underground this whole time and no one knew about them. It's their lore, they can do what they want with it

I must agree.

They can Dwemer into Dwarves, bring a Skeleton race and even magic sniper rifles.

Should they? That's debatable I guess. My opinion? No.

It would have been nice if the ES games would have removed one major race and play with a minor race of the game's area. Like so:

Skyrim: Falmer instead of Dunmer

Oblivion: Ayleid instead of Altmer

Morrowind: Dwemer instead of Bosmer.

Daggerfall I can't think of any replacement except Sload instead of Argonians and that seems to lack evidence of Sload being locals.
However that idea has not been implemented before by bethesda, nor will it do after Skyrim either I bet. Shame though.
@ Doogerie, the closest thing to a rat race in the Elder Scrolls series that I can think of, is the Lilmothiit.

It is up to the player to provide the rationale for their characer concept. New player characters have, up until now, been a "clean slate" (i.e., no backstory) . This is fantasy role-playing. The reason to add it would be another option for the players (at little to no additional expense to Bethesda).

No where did I say the race needed to be friendly. Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion worked with something called factions. As with the other in game races, there can be hostile and non-hostile factions. But again, if it is only the player (as a Dremora), this "problem" doesn't even arise. As far as your preference for dremoras as "badass demons," you would be able to play a dremora as a "badass demon." Elder Scrolls is a sandbox franchise and thus allows choices in gaming styles. More choices > less choices.

The problem with it being a mod is that mods have a history of causing conflicts (quests can encounter a problem where they don't advance properly in the stages) and is thus an uncertain "solution" at best. If Bethesda checks that "playable" box in the Construction Set, then there can be no conflict from its inclusion.

As I explained, you need not fear for the "official lore," as it is not determined by how individual players play their game.

Hate to bust your balls, but it isn't going to happen. You can come up with as many logical and debatable arguments as you like, but most people are against it, and I don't think you can sway Bethesda's mind at this point. It isn't as easy as just checking a playable box. There are a lot more things involved, disposition from other npcs, explanation for the dremora being in there, and its likely the dremora would all look the same, so a body and face editor would have to be implemented for them.

Look, if you really want to see how people feel about this, start up a poll asking people whether they want dremora as a playable race.
