Quest: A wheel short of a chariot

Post » Mon Jul 04, 2011 2:57 am

This is a quest suggestion for Skyrim which will very unlikely be in the final game but could be made into a mod.

After becoming good fiends with the countess of "Riften" she asks that you take her to the chariot races in the centre of town. As you start to settle down the race starts to begin with 4 different racers each with 4 horses. The race lasts 7 laps and usually is held once a month. After watching an intense race the 4 chariots reach the final lap. As the 4 chariots are coming around the final lap the leader "Derarius" the countess's chariot and jockey starts to shake and suddenly the wheel of the chariot breaks from the chariot and causes the rest of the chariot to tumble. As a result "Derarius" is killed with the chariot falling on top of him.

After the race is over the countess talks to you and claims that the crash was no accident and claims it was sabotage. She will then ask that you go down to the stables where the chariots wreckage is being kept and investigate.

After inspecting the chariot you notice that the string keeping the wheel in place has been cut very finely and can't of been due to over usage and had to of been cut with a sharp object.

Many hours into your search you happen to find a dagger which could of been the one which cut the rope. After reading the inscription carefully it reads "av mafre nagaia".

With more thorough searching you notice the wheel which came off has slight frost marks on it perhaps another clue.

You decide to visit the mages guild to find what the inscription means. You later find out it means Frost Damage. The mage will also add that the dagger would of have to of belonged to mage.

After you think you have the glue just about wrapped up you decide to visit the 3 other racers. After some hard persuading you manage to persuade the 3 racers to own up to the sabotaging and that it was all their doing. At this point you can either decide to let the 3 racers go free or report them to the countess to have them jailed or executed.

What do you think?

I think if the wheel was held on by string, it's Derarius' own damn fault.

This reminds me of that one quest in the Chorrol castle, where you have to find who stole that painting. Also, I don't remember ever hearing about chariots in any of the games.

It would be a cool touch to the game being able to race.

I think we only have horses, you couldn't use a chariot in mountainous terrain
