Should i buy the first two to become a true fallout fan?

Post » Tue Jul 05, 2011 1:13 am

Okay so heres where im at. First i'll say im a huge post-apocalyptic gamer. Thats why my love for Fallout is so strong ;)
Fallout3: I played the Fallout 3 on Xbox 360 and loved it. I only rented it for a bout a month to get through the whole story and didn't do much exploring. After a few months i decided the hell with it i'm goin to buy and explore the wasteland more. So i own Fallout 3 on PC and love it. I might even start up a 3rd character and piss around some more.
Fallout New Vegas: i rented New Vegas a few times, but have not bought or beat it yet. Although i do think it is a lot of fun, i enjoyed fallout 3's storyline a little more. I know eventually i will end up buying it once i get the time to play more.

So i was browsing around the store the other day and found a game for the computer that was a variety pack of Fallout 1, Fallout 2, and Fallout: Tactics all in one. I have seen videos and read a lot about the games online, but have never played them because of the gameplay style being different (im used to FPS, RPG's) but ive heard they are really good games. Should i go and give them a try to be a true fallout fan.? :fallout:

Well, Fallout and Fallout 2 are some of the best RPGs in gaming history, and Tactics is fun as hell, MEC Gauss Minigun, 'nuff said.

They are much more complicated in terms of character stats and figuring out what to do, so be warned. Otherwise, they are wonderful games. Play them. Keep in mind New Vegas is a lot more faithful to the series than Fallout 3 is, and the story is a big part of that. Specifically, the amount of choices and straightforwardness that the originals and New Vegas sometimes lack. If you liked Fallout 3's story for other reasons (like personalness, or whatever) and not complexity, there shouldn't be a problem. Personally, in a RPG, I would take an impersonal story that isn't groundbreaking but is well-written and complicated to a story that is more epic and personal. Fallout 1 and 2 are a more personal story than New Vegas as you are saving the place you came from, but you aren't finding your daddy or anything like Fallout 3.

:hubbahubba: You should get it!

I wasn't lucky enough to find the originals in my local stores so I'm going to have to use Steam, oh well :)

Definately get F1 and F2.

As stated above, two of the best RPGs ever. :tops:

I played them through about 10x more than F3 or FNV.
Not that those are bad, but F1/F2 are just more, I don't know, immersive?

Anyway, :fallout:

Lord no, look at the graphics, all pixely and [censored], can't imagine how you would like to stare at that mess of colours for hours.
And the turn-based? It's so dated.
It's too hard too, I mean, SPECIAL is freaking impossible to get the hang of.
There's too many useless skills, hell, it's too hard to play as anything other than Small Guns.
The writing and story isn't all that either, just another "save the world" manure.
The random encounters are also far too ridiculously strong, you either die fighting or die trying to run away.
And there's so many things missing from the game like Fatman and the laser rifle, I mean, where is the laser rifle? All we get is some sniper with some wires glued onto it.
None of the characters are very likable either as around a dozen only have faces.

I'd save my money if I were you, those games are utterly pathetic and I can't understand how they ever were considered good, not even for it's own time.

Play Fallout, Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics. Who knows you may end up enjoying them more then Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Not that Fallout 3 and New Vegas arn't enjoyable lol. Playing the first three games will give you a better understanding of Fallout as a whole and not just the last two games. :foodndrink:

it is so sad that none of you can see the gloriousness that is FO:BOS, It is in all honesty my favorite game of all time, nothing on this earth compares to the beautiful graphics, the artfully written dialogue, bawls guarana works so much better for the setting then nuka cola, and best of all Metal how can you not like heavy metal in a fallout game?

I completely agree, and they fixed the contradictions in lore too which was very much needed.
