Unofficial Oblivion Patch Supplementals crash the game :(

Post » Tue Jul 05, 2011 8:47 am

Okay so,

1) install Unofficial_Oblivion_Patch_v3_2_0_Installer_Version-5296.exe

2) v1_4_0_Self-Installing_EXE_version-10739.exe

3) Unofficial_Official_Mods_Patch_v15_Installer_Version-9969.exe

Then copy the Textures, Meshes, Sound folders and the Unofficial Oblivion Patch.esp to my Oblivion DATA folder (Maintaining folder structure while doing so, click yes to any "over write" prompts.)

And then lastly copy each and every ESP file to my DATA folder overwriting the original unofficial official MOD/Shivering Isle patches (Including the Shivering Isles Meshes folder).

The instant I attempt to start the game it reaches the Loading screen before the main menu and then crashes. With everything but this Unofficial Oblivion Patch Supplemental package the game loads fine.

I use the Steam GOTY Deluxe version which includes all DLC/expansions etc.

Any help with this? I have Oblivion Mod Manager installed in case it is a order issue, I'm unfamiliar with what the correct load order should be.

Edit: Hot damn, I think I worked it out. Gotta load Shivering Isle first followed by the DLC's then all the unofficial patches... if someone could correct me that would be great. Also do I need to run the game via OMM? I didn't find the message box it presented to me when I clicked "Launch" very clear on that. It went on to discuss some other product.

You don't need to run the game through OBMM, and you have to load any masters required for any given patch, else the game will crash. In other word, if you don't have SI, don't use the SI patch. Also, please post your load order through OBMM or Wrye Bash next time. Also, if you load a patch before it's dependency the game may crash or hang. Please, download and install BOSS to help manage your load order.

I added picture of Oblivion Mod Manager showing the order. (Edit it in here in case you don't find it... http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h133/franpa/Untitled-86.png )

You do not need the DLCThievesDen- Unofficial Oblivion Patch SSB.esp any more so delete that one

That plugin features have been intergrated into the DLCTheivesDen.esp-Unofficial Oblivion Patch.esp itself

Well if everything is as it should be (I disabled what Corepc suggested now), why does the game always crash on exit? It didn't do that before I messed with any of the unofficial patches. I can load save games fine, just it crashes when quitting to desktop.

Fast Exit: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22410 <-- for the crashing, requires OBSE

Crashing on exit with a fairly-modified game is pretty normal.

Posting your load order through other utilities can give more information: http://tescosi.com/wiki/Oblivion:How_to_Post_Your_Load_Order

What Tomlong said, but did you run BOSS on that load order? That might perhaps fix the crash on exit issue, which seems a bit odd with only those plugins.

EDIT: What Corepc said I guess. Is crashes on exits normal with the UOP?

Crashing on exit is normal with nearly any modded setup. Even if all the mods are cleaned properly and in the right order.

Yes, I have crashes on exit as well with my current mod set up, but for a long while I didn't - even with FCOM. I probably had +100 mods at the time. dev_akm spent a lot of time fixing that for OOO/FCOM. So to say that it's "normal with nearly any modded setup" is simply untrue.

By "normal", I meant its a common experience for users of mods. I also had profiles where I didn't crash with a heavily modified setup, but I can't remember a particular change I made that induced those crashes. :L

Then consider yourself an exception. I didn't say "all" modded setups, I said "nearly any" modded setup, and that remains true.

If you can run +100 mods without it happening I'd say that it's untrue to say "nearly any". But what am I doing questioning the infallible Arthmoor. Sorry...

BOSS is a load-ordering tool. I don't know what "issue" you're talking about it relating to???

I guess he means if BOSS doesn't report any wrongly ordered or dirty mods.

The crash on exit issue.

Anyways I tried the FastExit 2 but it doesn't resolve the crash either. the OBSE logs show no errors.

Oh, you're experiencing the same thing as Arkngt. That's really strange. What OBSE plugins are you using?

Just the one, eh? Maybe it happened with one of the OBSE updates. ...I don't know. I think most people update OBSE. Try using the console command "quit game" or "quitgame", I can't remember if you need the space, but it does seem to quit cleanly more often that the menu methods.

Maybe UAC if they have Windows Vista or Seven has steam is installed to program files directory by default that may be the reason why fast2exit is not working (which is a dll) ..

Best Solution is reinstall steam outside of program directory, if you have alot of steam stuff, then perhaps give your admin right to steam folder..

There's nothing wrong with the exe. There's something wrong with your setup.

That is the stupidest thing I've heard all day.

I'm pretty sure someone would have noticed something like that in the 5 years since Oblivion was released. Not to mention the insult that is to the professionals who coded the game. I'm sure the OBSE guys and Ethatron, etc. would all have some suggestions to make to them in hindsight, but growing a brain isn't likely to be one of them.
