Creating montage with fraps (avi files)

Post » Thu Jul 07, 2011 6:37 pm

Im trying to a make a montage with fraps but fraps records the video into an avi file and when I try to view the gameplay in vlc or windows media/movie player it usualy comes out very stuttery and skipps alot. Is there anyway to produce a better product for revording and editing gameplay?

Thats all for now im just trying to get a little montage up before tommarrow mourning.

The problems seems to have fixed itself by recording in half size and 29.87 fps. But im not sure. Most of my footage is still barely watchable on VLC but ill see if I can still use it somehow. Im using windows media player to edit the tage does anyone reccomend a better program / Is there a pirated version?

Have you actually ever used PlayClaw in Crysis 2? On paper it sounds fantastic, and I was so excited to use it, but it crashed my game every time I used it, it really is awful.

@OP When you put the video into your video editor it typically plays fluidly. That's how it works for me with sony vegas 10.

Fraps wont encode the video, it will only dump it to your drive. This results in large files.
You need to re-encode the raw files to a lower bandwidth so VLC and other programs can use them effectively.
I use a program called virtualdub to cut selected scenes from an initial file and then save them as a smaller avi file with proper encoding. Good luck.

I use windows live movie maker to convert to 720p - smaller file size aswell.. the only thing is a bit of quality loss and a .wmv file type.. however i have no problems playin the RAW files with VLC..

Yes i did. And it works perfect for me. If you have problems with codecs, you can also try Bandicam - there is many options to record (xvid, mpg etc.)
