Control Questions

Post » Fri Jul 08, 2011 9:11 am

Just a nagging feeling in the back of my head, but how do you block on a 360 controller? i mean, with the whole dual wielding thing going on, and the hot keys and all taking up the triggers and D-pad, along with dragon shouts on the right bumper, and 3rd person on the left bumper, along with what i guess with be the map hot key on the back button, or just block with one of the buttons like B or X, or maybe having blocking being on the left bumper and 3rd person being on the back button with no map hot key? Post any ideas you have.

well bethesda like to keep there control layout fair accessible so i imagine that left trigger will be block for shilelds and two handed weapons and hand to hand actually hand to hand left trigger may even be used as a kick?

map inventory magic is on the D pad. that does leave alot of buttons open for use , hrmm this is actuall a very good question youve asked. perhaps we'll have a quick save button. Y i imagine is still jump. A to activate. X to sheath weapon/s. B to faverites? left bumper or right stick click to 3rd person.

I bet if your pull both triggers down you can block or move the 3rd person view to clicking down the right trigger. And blocking to left bumper.

Left bumper all the way. That way you can block while keeping your finger close to both triggers.

No bethesda already said that the d-pad is for favorites and the B button is for the "Pip-Boy" which has your map, inventory, spells, and skills.

This. And I'm pretty sure the right bumper is going to be your dragonshout. I thought I heard Todd say this at some point.

If your sheild is in your left hand you will use the left trigger to block. If you're fighting H2H or duel wielding I imagine that you hold down both triggers at the same time to block. Just a guess though.

IF u payed any attention in the e3 preview u would know that u can equip a sheild in a hand and then control that hand via which ever bumper so the block controls are...RT <

I think most of the buttons are already taken up.

LB/RB are sprint and dragon shouts.
LT is block
RT is attack
A is activate
B is Inventory
X is Sheath/unsheath.
Y is jump

So i dont think we have many options.

That's a good question.

Maybe, and this would be awful if this was the case, whenever you're duel wielding swords the right trigger controls both weapons... I'm not sure if you can block with a staff in the left hand, and I'm assuming you can't block if you have magic in that hand... So it could be possible that LT is always block unless you have a staff or magic in your left hand...

From the gameplay I've seen I don't think there will be blocking with duel wield, I'll be praying for parries.

Collision based parrying would be awesome, but i dont see it happening.

I like this setup except I think the sprint button should be the Right anolog Stick Click.
Also I don't think it matters if you're in 1st or 3rd person all the buttons will be the same.

I guess the question that the OP is really trying to ask is:

How does blocking work while dual wielding on the 360?

Idk

I think when you hold down both triggers at the same time either you block (which means you can't attack with both weapons) or attack with both weapons (which means that you cant block when you are dual wielding)

I imagined that the bumper buttons (or the mouse buttons on PC) would correspond to the appropriate hand, like in Marathon. Left bumper/click for left hand weapon, right bumper/click for right-hand weapon (or vice versa, depending on your handedness I guess).
