Difficult to make potions with difficult to find ingredients

Post » Sat Jul 09, 2011 3:03 pm

Alchemy was a bit of a throwaway skill in the past games. Potions were supportive, but not essential. You may start out making interesting potions when your skills are low, but when you level up, you find yourself only using healing potions. There should be a higher tier of potions which provide immense benefits to the player if they are made properly.

The ingredients for these potions would be hard to come by or very expensive. Perhaps there is a monster which is rarely seen and extremely difficult to kill, they would have a high tier ingredient.

Alchemy just needs to be given a greater importance in the game.

Express your thoughts/ideas on how alchemy could be better implemented.

I agree...alchemy should have a higher position in life.

HUH??

I renamed morrowind and oblivion better living through alchemy 1 and 2 because of how important the skill was. Alchemy was almost every magic skill in the game in a bottle, it did everything and it did it better than the magic skills in many cases.

You make a good point. Alchemy should play a larger role this time around. Making my own potions and concoctions gives me a feeling of self-sustainability.

I found alchemy essential to play with, I simply can't imagine playing without it.

I toyed with alchemy as a healer in Morrowind, and used it a lot in Oblivion.

When certain potions were created, if I could not use it, I sold it.

For Skyrim, it is in current planning that my v?lva (shamaness) will rely heavily on alchemy, so I must agree that I hope alchemy is a viable option in game play.

I will be keeping an eye on this http://oblivion.melian.cc/?cmd=cmdOblivionPotions, as we learn more about alchemy in Skyrim

i think alchemy wasnt that important in past games simply becuase you could use it to easily for power leveling. i think to make it more important you should have to actually buy empties bottles.

Alchemy and magic have a lot of effects that are identical but magic then goes on to other things (summoning, ect) that alchemy can't. It would be cool to give alchemy some things magic does not have.

And yes make it more, I wouldnt say difficult, I would say involved.

I only used it for health and magicka potions, and for poisons. Didn't use any of the other ones, just sold them

What if they let us have a garden, and we could choose which plants we wanted to grow in it, so we could always have enough of the right ingredients? That'd be something I'd be into
