Make one NPC attack another

Can anyone explain how I can make one NPC attack another, being triggered by a dialogue option? Preferable using the result script box. I've tried this- StartCombat ActorID --But it just keeps saying that it doesn't recognize the actor's ID... and yes, I've checked time after time to make sure I've entered the ID correctly, and that it corresponds to the correct NPC.
