Question about Oblivion Unofficial Patch Supplementals

Post » Sun Jul 10, 2011 12:41 pm

So I installed the unofficial patch, and apparently there is another patch (That I have to manually install, crap :[ ) that I also have to manually install. I wish to know a few things if anyone has answers for me.

"I have a question, this is my first time installing these patches for oblivion (wish there was an auto installer but I don't wanna break my game atm so this is why I'm asking now), and do I take the meshes, etc. from INSIDE the folder (ex. Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch Supplemental/Sound or Meshes), do I extract Sound/Meshes TO the Data folder and overwrite, or do I just drag the 09 Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch Supplemental folder into the data folder and that's it, everything's fine and dandy?"

(Taken from my comment on TESNexus btw)

If I could get any help that'd be appreciated.

(I did read the Readme, thanks. I just want to be sure before I mess my game up. And I did make a backup of the directory, but I'd rather get it right the first time than mess with things all night.)

Your folder structure should look like: Oblivion\Data\Meshes\... or Oblivion\Data\Sound\... or whatever. Windows might mention that there is already a folder with that name, but you shouldn't be overwriting any files, at least not with UOP or UOPS.

Yeah it does. So I'd take the Sound folder from the Supplemental Patch .7z thing and merge them, right? (And overwrite files, I assume) And do the same thing for everything else? And the .esp files go into the main data folder, yeah? The readme says there might be overwriting occurring, so... :\

Folder overwriting, but probably shouldn't be file overwriting (unless you've already installed some mods, in which case you probably don't want to overwrite).

But yes, .esp files go in the Data\ folder, .nif files go in the Data\Meshes\ folder (or some sub-folder thereof), .dds files go in Data\Textures (or a sub-folder), etc.

Mostly you should be able to just copy everything that's in the folder with the .esp, and paste it into the Data folder, and if the mod is packaged correctly (which the UOP definitely is), it should all be in the right place.

Alright, thank you! I'll check out the FAQ too, I just thought this was kinda specific.

The Unofficial Patch is, mechanically speaking, "just" a mod. Its status as "Unofficial Patch" has more to do with the goals for which the mod was designed (to fix bugs), and the standards to which it was held (only fix bugs, nothing fancy, nothing problematic).
