Soultrap on Dragon

Post » Sun Jul 10, 2011 2:06 pm

Im sure we all know that when we kill a dragon, we absorb there soul and unlock/upgrade shouts (if we found the word wall) with them. You are also probably aware that, like in oblivion, magic items do not recharge over time. In Oblivion, the varla stones where a powerful way to restore the enchantment power of all your gear. But...

there are no varla stones in Skyrim (lore wise they shouldent be any way). Its not like we need them, since the main method of refiling enchantment is more soul gems after all, but they sure were nice.... but hold on a second.

Dragon Souls (often implied to be stronger then most) are aperintly in abundance, and Soul Trap magic should bind that soul into a soul gem, perhaps one that could both make some more powerful then averge enchantments or even refill all your gears enchantments, as a more accessible and more economic way of dealing with the no-regeneration system. Of corse, these souls would probably need a grand soul gem (or even Azura's Star) to harness them, but that only adds to balancing them out.

Any thoughts?

No, because dragon's souls should just be for learning words...not for getting all your enchantments refilled.

As the player you should get to choose whether or not you absorb a dragon's soul or capture it.(With the use of the soultrap effect of course)

This is why you shouldn't be able to soul trap dragons. Dragon's souls cannot be trapped. Especially not a dragon god.

Unlimeted dragons, and only 60 shouts... it might be my math, but it seams to me that there might be enough for both. And what if i hadent found any word walls yet?

You could trap Vivc's soul, and he was a god. They just made his soul so powerful it reflected his god-hood.

Wow, 2 people mention Vivec in a row saying the same thing, and misspelling both times. Yes you should be able to soul trap god characters, given you have a special soul gem (Azura's Star or maybe a Black Soul Gem, something rare and expensive). Hmm, but dragons. You get dragon shouts from killing them, basically soul trap them to yourself, so I don't know.

I think that we could soul trap dragons into some specific stones or other type of container, and later when we read another "wall letter" we could absorb the kept soul right on the spot and be able to use that letter after that moment.

I think Bethesda wantrs to keep dragon souls limited to learning shouts, and if you could soul trap them for use in enchanting and recharging enchanted items, then this should logically prevent absorbing the soul for learning shouts, and honestly, I wouldn't consider that a tradeoff worth considering, seeing as the benefits of recharging enchanted items last only until you deplete said charges, whereas once you learn a new dragon shout, it lasts forever.

They could always rationalize it by saying that dragon souls are intrinsically different enough that the typical soul containing receptacles are unable to handle them. Also, wasnt it stated that Vivec and co were considered to be false gods?

You absorb the soul, not the soul stone

Yes. I'll be a bit disappointed if we can't capture dragon souls along with all the rest. As stated, there are a limited number of Shouts and a theoretically unlimited number of dragon encounters, so the excess souls will either be unused, or able to be trapped.

I'd also expect them to be grand souls, but considering the dragons' possible nature as lesser spirits, it could be that they're a class of their own alike to Vivec or Almalexia's souls in Morrowind.
