FOMM, FOSE, and Steam

Post » Mon Jul 11, 2011 3:23 am

Hey guys, I bought the GOTY Fallout 3 on Steam last night and I want to mod it. I've already beaten the game on Xbox so I'm jumping right in with mods to change the whole game. I have modded Oblivion countless times, but the major difference here is that my FO3 is on Steam. I have followed the readme's and info for FOMM and FOSE, but I want to make sure I am doing it correctly. I have put FOMM and FOSE in the steamapps/common/fallout goty folder, but when I open FOMM, I don't see FOSE in the load order. I also don't see the "Launch with FOSE" or some other button on FOMM that I have heard people talking about.

I just want to make sure I am doing it correctly before I even get started. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

EDIT: I would also like to launch my game from Steam but have everything working good, so how do I go about doing this?

EDITEDIT: Ok I went ahead and put all the folders and files from "GeMM" directly into the "fallout goty" folder and now FOMM is reading FOSE, so I am erasing that part from this post. My next question is when I did this, since FOMM had a "data" folder, Windows prompted me saying that a folder already exists under "Data" "Are you sure you want to merge these?" I said yes and nothing was overwritten, but is it ok that some of FOMM's data files are in the Fallout Data folder?

FOSE is not a plugin to appear in the load order. Just enable that steam community thing, and FOSE should automatically run when starting the game.

I have read somewhere that you have to change the filename for fose loader to Falloutlauncher so Steam can launch it. Is this correct? And if so, do you rename the original Falloutlauncher?

You do not have to rename anything. Just put the content of the FOSE archive in your Fallout 3 folder, and enable that steam community option. You can type "GetFOSEVersion" (without the quotes) in the console to see if it's working.

What do you mean by "enable that steam community option"?

Check your steam settings. I do not have access to Steam right now otherwise I would take a screen.

Yes I have it activated already but to use FOMM and FOSE with running the game from Steam, I have read many times that you have to change the name of the FOSE launcher to FalloutLauncher. Also, can anyone else please let me know if I have to separately take the files and folders from the FOMM folder created on install and put them into the fallout goty folder, or can I just move the WHOLE folder with all of the files for FOMM in it to fallout goty?
