Need help using mods!

Post » Mon Jul 11, 2011 9:00 am

Hi everyone. I just finished my first run through Morrowind unmodded and want to try mods now. I succesfully installed Better Bodies/Clothes because they come with an installer. Now i've been trying to use better heads. I know I have to unzip the file but my computer didnt come with that function so I installed ADLSoft UnCompressor. I have the better heads mod saved into a marked folder in my documents. Everytime I try to unzip it I get an error message "File Uncompressor has encountered a problem and needs to close, we are sorry for the inconveniance". Someone please help me, I got this game for the modding but now I can't even use them. :cryvaultboy:

I'm not familiar with ADLSoft UnCompressor, but http://www.rarlab.com/ or http://www.7-zip.org/ both work very well.
Both are free.

The http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/106063-morrowind-mods-faq/page__p__1772866#entry1772866 also has detailed instructions on how to install mods.

Edit: Might as well link this too, if you have more questions about mods and/or finding what you need: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1060141-mod-recommendations-for-new-players/page__hl__recommendations

I couldn't unzip once... turns out I was wearing button-up jeans.

Seriously, though. WinRAR, dude. WinRAR.

Yeah, WinRAR gets the job done. You can buy it but if you decide to use the trial version you can do so indefinitely and without any limitation.

Here's a link to the official website's download page: http://www.win-rar.com/download.html

Not sure what it is, but both winzip and winrar have left a bad taste in my mouth. I have a distinct preference for 7zip. (LZMA compression is far superior).

If the file integrity failed, try downloading it again and installing again. But what packer/compressor you use is ultimately up to you. Find something that works, and stick to it. (At least until you need to unpack 7z files, which some mods are compressed with)

Thanks to everyone for the help, I finally got everything working with winRAR. Any suggestions for mods I should use? Right now all I have is better bodies, heads, clothing, and the unofficial patch. :celebration:

Nevermind, I ran into another problem  So I went to data files and checked off all my mods. Booted up Morrowind and everything seemed fine. Now first I loaded an old save before the mods were downloaded so I expected something weird to happen. During the loading screen i had to tell the game to continue running the execuatable multiple times. Then it let me play. All non-beast race npcs were giant yellow blobs with exclamations points in them. :banghead: Then I went back to the main menu and tried a new game. It loaded for 1 second with an error message saying something about meshes. Please help this poor mod-noob.

Why not just re-read this thread???
I already made excellent suggestions to both of your problems.

What OS are you using?
Vista and WIn7 need to have their http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/781497-vistawindows-7-problems/page__view__findpost__p__11352753

Also, an error "that said something about meshes" tells us little.
Give the exact warning if you want more help, but the above links should help you :)

I'm using Windows XP. The error message reads: "Model load error: Meshes\BH\BH_DS_DE_m_H02-01. NIF cannot load tile in Meshes\BH\BH_DS_DS_m_H02-0. NIF. will use the default object marker_Error. NIF. Continue running executable?"
But then it gives the yes or no options to continue running the executable but the screen is frozen and I have to Ctrl/Alt/Delete my way out of it.

And I tried your links but was unable to find my mistake :( (i'm not very computer savvy  )

EDIT: If I use all the mods except better heads it works just fine. Maybe that helps?
