A home fit for a dragon-born

Post » Tue Jul 12, 2011 1:04 pm

Am i greedy if i say all of the above? I think selection is key in an RPG game. So I'd like to be able to live in a wooden shack out in the woods if i were a thief/assasin. But if i was going for a noble warrior character i'd much rather be able to choose to live in a more civilised home. And it should come with levels, certain keys to better houses will be available when you reach a certain level or complete a certain quest.

Of course not. This topic is about what you'd like to see in Skyrim, or what you would like to see modded in.
Like I said in my first post, one of my favorite home mods in Oblivion is an ancient dwemer skyship. It included a small quest in which you had to locate the hangar and defeat the dwemer centurians guarding it. Once you had found the ship, you were given a ring that gave the player three spells. The first let you call the ship to your current location. The second commanded the ship to fire its cannons on your enemies(which was essentially a weak fireball spell that attacked all visible enemies from above, not overpowered at all). And the third spell teleported you to the skyship's deck. The ship itself had a captains cabin, a smith area that raised your armorer skill high enough to need only one hammer(simulating having access to all the hammers you need), a room for alchemy storage, a small kitchen for storing food, a (small) room for displaying treasures, a cannon room, and some bunkers for the crew. You can check it out at http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20799 to see what I'm talking about.

Sadly there was no crew. I'd like something similar in Skyrim, but with a few crew members, maybe some cannon operators, and maybe some other things I can't think of right now.

I want a large castle, old, half destroyed with age and old damage from dragon attack or some kind of attack, that I can rebuild, store my dragon loot, hire guards and servants, and in general fix up, but I also want mines to mine, cattle to cull, and a village to protect with farms of their own and maybe docks from where to launch boats for fishing, you know just a small place to call home

An ancient and worn castle perched over a cliff with it's own village and grand mead-hall down below...

Different houses for different characters.
Hopefully they include something like the strongholds in Morrowind.

If Vampirism / Lycanthropy is in then I'd quite like to set up shop in a big abandoned Castle (something akin to the ruins of Berkhamstead Castle) but with an undercroft / intact but delapidated throne room.

Definitely a run down wooden shack. It would have a very rustic feel to it.

I'd like to see a variety, like those you mentioned in the OP. I'd also like to be able to live underground, maybe in a cavern with waterfalls and such, but be able to purchase things for a living area and storage. Since I'm playing a Bosmer, I'd love to stumble upon a Bosmer camp somewhere in the wilderness with a network of tree-houses where I can purchase one and move in and add certain pieces of furniture and storage to it. I doubt that would be in the game obviously, but I'm just sayin', how cool would it be to live in a tree.

My first mod for Skyrim will be a cabin, most likely in the Autumn Forest area depending on the layout of the game and other factors. I want to do something similar to the Mountain Shack for Oblivion where the player gets to clean up and fix up the place. I'm already experimenting with the scripting and so forth using Fallout New Vegas as my gineau pig, so hopefully it won't take too long after the game is released to get started on it.

But I also want to do a castle mod in the spirit of the Battlehorn Castle DLC and Glenvar Castle mod for Oblivion. It will have a huge museum and display room and all the ammenities that I and many others love.

Wood houses wouldn't exactly fit for a 'Dragon'born.
Stone would be the best option.
Wouldn't he be rejected by civilization?
How would he live in a mansion with servants?

Past TES housing experiences have been varied, to include some awesome modded homes.

It would be fun, perhaps, to be given some land as a reward from a certain faction, or purchase it.

Regardless, once the land/lot is acquired, I would like to be able to design and build my own house, using crafting items and skills. I would like to make imporvements as I could afford them.

Then I would like furnish the home piece by piece, to include extensive decorating. Items acquired via purchase or crafting.

Some items I would like are mannequins, a variety of storage options, some for treasure, some for display and smaller containers for alchemical and foodstuffs.

In the home, I would like assorted workbenches for tailoring (dye would be nice), alchemical and cooking.

Outside, perhaps a couple small outbuildings set up for for smithing/enchanting, weapons armor and bowyer/fletching, etc.

A functional garden would be nice.

I know this sounds like a lot, but much of it has already been accomplished in older Bethesda games, or will be included in Skyrim.

Therefore, "play the Sims" need not apply to my wishes.

Now to my new kitchen for some mudcrab gumbo followd by some fresh baked apple pie.

Just give me the parts, and I will build it.

As part of a quest mod, I'm creating a large town, 15-20 buildings, and it'll be built on the side of a mountain. As you progress through the quests, you'll hire a smith, builders, and miners that can construct the town to accommodate the folk that you meet during your quests. The town itself sort of serves as a representation of all the work that you've done in previous quests, as each time you finish a quest, you can usually earn another citizen, and that often means earning another building. The more successful the town is, the better your quarters become.

At first, you have a dormitory-style, with screens partitioning sixteen different living quarters. The quarters themselves are tiny, and only have bedrolls. As you start building the city, the dorms are turned into living quarters for those in charge of the city. When the building is coming along nicely, you gain access to an apartment that overlooks the town. It has enough room for you, as well as for a spouse. Finally, when all is complete, you'll receive special living quarters suitable for a Jarl at the very least.

My character doesn't go for nice things, unless she earns them. In the life of an adventurer, a blanket and a pillow are one needs for a good night's sleep. If you earn a position, then your sleeping arrangments can change. The member of a poor guild gets a bedroll. The member of a well-off guild gets a bed. The officer of a well-off guild gets living quarters. The master of a guild gets the best that that guild can offer, without taking anything away from the members. At least that's how my character runs her guild.
