Enchanting in Skyrim, and how it compares to the previous ga

If you wish, you may share your opinion of the ideal enchanting system. Maybe something that would be entirely new to the series. Be creative! ^_^

The fan interview hints at a system closer to Oblivion's when it comes to recharging weapons.

EDIT: Self bumping is sad. :(

Enchanted weapons are sought after. They are a hot commodity. It makes utilizing them more rewarding. Keep in mind, it's an enchanted item. Why should YOU be the fuel for this? The soul gems make more sense. You need to recharge these items. Why would your person be enough to recharge these items, no matter your skill level? That doesn't make sense. You still need the fuel (soul gems). Having to hunt for soul gems makes utilizing them more enjoyable and more rewarding. It also creates a strategic element of having to decide which weapon to utilize the soul gem with.

I really wish they would add a slow recharge, one that goes by real time so that people cant just wait a couple days and be at full power all the time.

This has to the best explanation I've ever read justifying the changes from III to IV. I still personally prefer recharging over time so I'm not limited in using my items as to my heart's content. It would be neat if you could create soul gems from raw materials or something.

The best system would be Oblivion's with the difference that Enchantments didn't devour charge so ridiculously quickly. Of course it's cumbersome if the damn thing lasts for only 20 swings! That's the reason I would rely on my own custom enchantments instead, ones that lasted for 100+ times without recharging. Sure, you didn't quite get the "nuke" effect you'd get from a pre-made enchantment, but it was the best compromise between edge and cost. That's the compromise Beth should go for.

Another idea is to have slow regen, but limit how powerful of enchantment it works with, based on your Enchanting skill. Enchantments would be split into tiers, and if your skill is insufficent for a given enchantment, no regen for you, pal.

I believe what works best, while making sense, is for enchanting to work a lot like blacksmithing. The better the skill, the stronger armor you can make and the less hammers you spend on making it. I suppose the higher your enchantment level the less souls is required to charge your items and your enchantments become stronger. I really want to be able to wait for my enchantments to recharge because it's simply a lot less tedious. In oblivion I would save before using items because it just wasn't worth it. I used my special weapons as a last resort just so I wouldn't have to hunt for more grande soul gems.

I never really used enchanted weapons in OB. I think it needs improving, I just don't know how. I would prefer it to be more like Morrowinds though.
