I recently completed the last of the Mage's Guild quests and was at last given possession of the Arch Mage's Chambers. Deciding to explore some dungeons and finish off my remaining quests, I stored everything thate I wouldn't need in the chest at the foot of the bed (not the Alchemy Chest). This included the Staff of Worms and all my potions, enchanted items, books, and equipment except my gold, Arch-Mage robes, and staff. I came back later to find everything gone since I did not know it was a 'static' chest (meaning the items would be replaced after a certain time period).

I have one save for that character at 50 days (save 9) and a save 30 in-game days earlier (save 7). I tried deleting the autosave.ess and replacing it with the autosave.bak in my Oblivion Saves folder twice to go back to a previous autosave, but it only went back one autosave, then no more .bak files appeared. Is there any way to restore 'save 8,' or maybe even to get my lost items back? It would be terrible if I had to go back 60% of my entire game record or lose some amazing unique items.

Could I possibly even use the console to spawn another Staff of Worms and other items that were lost?

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know about the quest status of the thing though. I don't know how you would restore a save that doesn't exist. If you deleted it, you could try undeleting it, but if it's not a recent deletion, chances of success are low.
