Music for your TES nostalgia needs

Post » Fri Jul 15, 2011 9:12 pm

I found this neat little Youtube video of a medley of the main theme songs of all TES games, and I figured you guys might like that...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPYMhHpWs4A

Personally I think that music is one of the most important parts of video games, since there are certain songs that remind me of my childhood(or whatever) and stick with you for ages (such as the famous http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jaPAXknX88k)

So feel free to comment...which one is your favorite TES song and what memories does it bring?

I think Arena takes the cake for best Elder Scrolls theme, not much more can be said there. Then Morrowinds theme is a close second, I would have chosen this as my first pick had the video not reminded me of the Arena. I love the fact that Morrowind Oblivion and Skyrim all incorporated the same theme and are all in different keys so it has a nice and natural distinction that changes the mood and the feel.

Arena's theme seems a bit dull and unnotable to me. I always forget about how it sounds shortly after it's finished.I find the current theme (MW, OB, SK variations) much more iconic and memorable. My favourite one is probably Skyrim theme but they're all great.

Fits under elder scrolls general discussion not Skyrim, though I appreciate the link as this is the only forum I look at.

Quick, Someone say something skyrim related so that this stays in the Skyrim general discussion!

As a game, Morrowind was epic because it never tried to be epic. Oblivion tried, and succeed, in being epic. Two different strategies that worked. Their main themes reflected this perfectly.

Here are my favorite exploring tracks from Morrowind and Oblivion:
MW: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wQw45WVeek&feature=related
Oblivion: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldjqouqqnqE

To be slightly off topic, despite their rough-round-the-edges style of developing games, Obsidian/Black Isle Studios put in music that just works:
Fallout 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gVFhJnIbzc&feature=related
KotoR 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DtVBD6W5_A

The first five seconds of KotoR II - probably by favorite motif in all gaming music.

I have a thing for really old game music from the 80s and 90s especially the fake instrument sounds so I have a soft spot for arena. I would like to hear what it would sounds like in the modern day.
The only thing I really don't like about the Skyrim theme is the OHHH AHHHH in there, but other than that I think it really well composed. I'm hoping that it will grow on me with time.
And yeah, I do agree with you about the MW, OB, SK theme being much more memorable than the other TES games

For Oblivion this one is by far my all time favorite.

I've never played Morrowind, so I'm only familiar with the main theme of the game.
I really can't stand playing a game if it doesn't have good music, if I can't like the music I'll either turn the music or the game off.
