As you approach the appropriate level go and do some activity to bring your karma to neutral. You can increase your karma by giving water to beggars, and you can lose karma by stealing a bunch of stuff. Which is easier depends on your play style, but I always found it easier to stay slightly good and steal stuff to bring my karma down.

also capture the mutants captives for good karma.bad karmas obvious.if you go somewhere that its safe to steal without getting caught, keep stealing then put the stuff back and repeat.also i think you lose more karma if you steal one thing at a time rather than take all.but it is farely hard to keep it.i suppose you only need to keep it nuetral at the times your gonna level up to the level you need to be at to get the achievment though.

It's also a bit annoying if you have a companion that will only follow you if you have neutral karma, then you're separated from them by the game (e.g. the main quest) and can't get them to follow you again until you get your karma back to neutral!

This means if you're playing as a good or evil character you basically have to do stuff out of character just to get a companion back!

Give purified water to the thirsty people or steal things in plain sight.

Well, isn't travelling with a companion whose alignment is significantly different from your own out of character anyway? An evil character isn't going to want to hang around with Star Paladin Cross, for example. I kind of think they should have made it so that companions would leave if your karma strayed too far from theirs.

Star Paladin Cross does, but some don't.
