FEV Experimentation Debate

Post » Sun Jul 17, 2011 3:50 am

This subject is certainly confusing. I have a go at it; yes, all the FEV research at West Tek was transferred to Mariposa, but it seems that Vault-Tec had a redundant FEV experimentation contract with the government and apparently planned tests on vault-dwellers with this different strain of FEV. This is possible because research in these areas often have many parallels and are often carried out in different parts of the country. A real world example is the Manhatten Project in the development of nuclear weapons. There were over thirty sites (including Los Alamos Labs) that were devoted to this research. The redundacy is for maximum collaboration, but all the research is compiled in one central location (usually). In essence Styles, your logic is correct as what happened at West Tek and Mariposa, but at Vault 87, even though it the story was told poorly, it is still possible the research of FEV's effects on the vault's inhabitants was independently contracted to Vault-Tec.

Independently contracted to Vault-Tec would make no sense, in that Vault-Tec makes Vaults not research into Viruses.

The timeline only gives 10 months for someone to say "Make a Vault for research into this new FEV strain" and for someone to say "Ok we can risk the chance of a security breach by sending this research to people that have nothing to do with Virus Research." It also does not make sense for them to Build Mariposa for the sole purpose of All FEV research and then turn around and say "we need another place for this research."

The Virus in Fallout 3 would have been created in the ten months before the great war at Mariposa. This means Mariposa has the means to house and study it.

I am still firmly in the camp of only West Tek had it and it was all stored at Maraposia. FO3 Vault -tec location was a plot hole rectconn make as an excuse to have Super mutants in DC.

Couldn't agree more.

I agree with you. It doesn't make sense, but I didn't write the story-board for FO 3. I am just saying that it is still possible because it happens in RL. Also Bethesda maintains there are many divisions of Vault-Tec that do other forms of research that is quite different than vault construction technology, like bio-tech (FO Wiki, Vault-Tec Industries).

Who said they got Vault-Tec involved, they could've gotten people from West-Tek to bring the FEV and then put those same people in Vault 87.

Vault-Tec would just've known that the government wanted to make alittle adjustment to 87.

The government could've expected that Marisopa could've been comprimised so they decided to put the other facility as far away from Marisopa as possible, D.C. The researchers would be right there too!

EDIT- And the guy who said all research was moved to Marisopa might not in the 'need to know' about Vault 87.

Because the Overseer of the Vault and all of it's personnel/residents are hired by Vault-Tec and some still think of themselves as Vault-Tec employees even after the bombs have dropped; also Vault-Tec was a general contractor for the government anyway, they built the government stuff for use in other bunkers like Hidden Valley.
