Why did the Brotherhood won at Purity?

Post » Sun Jul 17, 2011 10:10 am

I mean, the Enclave wouldn't possibly just forget that they have an orbital laser superweapon that can turn the tables in one go by kicking Liberty Prime's bum with a direct hit, right? Logically, the Brotherhood won at Jefferson Memorial simply because they have Liberty Prime with them, as the Enclave has better tech and more men.

However, the Enclave had the weapon to take away the Brotherhood's only advantage, so why did they not use it? If they did, the Brotherhood would have been beaten back, and the Enclave would have achieved their goal... whatever it was. (since Autumn is against the modified FEV plan)

Obviously the orbital weapon wasn't operational yet, and having only two shots left they could only use it if absolutely necessary.
I surmize that Liberty Prime was probably hit within minutes or hours of the weapon becoming operational.

It was because Bethesda screwed up and can't write worth a damn. People wanted play after the end, which forced Bethesda to make Broken Steel, which caused the problem you just pointed out.

It also made the Enclave's plan for FEV poinless. It would have tured the DC wasteland into a "graveyard" and yet with Broken Steel that no longer happens.

Yep, Broken Steel broke the plot of Fallout 3 and the Enclave's role in the game.

Lashing out much?

Styles is pointing out something that is at the heart of the matter. He is also entitled to his opinion, much like you are. Broken Steel screwed up the Enclave's plot almost universally. I love Fallout 3 but agree with his position whole heartedly, there isn't much excuse for the type of writing and plot holes that Broken Steel caused.

The only thing I really liked about Broken Steel was AAFB. Which was a location that I thought Bethesda really outdid themselves on. I loved the look and feel of it.

It does not matter if you are a new fan of Fallout or an old dinosaur like me. It really doesn't matter. What matters is your ability to follow a plot and logic.

It is simple logic and plot development. The entire point of Enclave under Eden was to kill everyone in DC by having you put the FEV in project purity. It was said this would turn DC into a graveyard. If you follow that path, it is removed by Broken Steel. Thereby making Eden's plan totally poinless. Making the Enclave's role in the game pointless.

The problem the OP points out is also a mark of bad writing. The only advantage the BoS had was Optimus Prime. In Broken Steel the Enclave have a weapon that could destroy Optimus with one shot and they had it the whole time. So why did they let the BoS take Project Purity in the first place? Why didn't they just destroy the Citadel years ago?

Another problem is no matter what side you pick in Broken Steel the Enclave get destroyed.

Why didn't the Enclave just use their airborn FEV plan again long before the time of Fallout 3?

I could go on.

Would it not just be easier to say "Bethesda made mistakes." If the fans held Bethesda to account for their bad writing and plot holes, maybe they might try harder with the next game?

Why is it so many people demand better graphics, better mechanics more weapons and so on, but not better writing?

But he points it out all the time, he doesn't want an explanation he just wants to lash out at Bethesda at every instance.
He brings it up often enough he might as well put it in his quote.

Not the case. I am not bashing Bethesda at every chance I get. I just see no logical way to explain away the OPs point. Or any of the other points I pointed out. There are so many problems caused by Broken Steel, that it can't simply be explained.

Just having so many unexplained plot holes in Broken Steel alone, never mind the rest of Fallout 3. Just goes to show how bad Bethesda was at making a plot, how bad their writing really is.

I like Fallout 3, I don't hate it and I don't hate Bethesda. I am a Fallout fan and as a fan of the series I look at Fallout as a whole. Fallout 3 is the odd game out in IMO. I see it as canon, I see it as a Fallout game, just not a very good one. My biggest problem with it as a whole is the over all bad writing throughout the game.

My hope is that Bethesda will try harder in the next game. That they will sit down and really think hard about what they are doing. "If the player takes path A, how will it change, B, C, D and E? They did not really do that with Fallout 3 and really there was only option A and B so how hard could it have been?

How is it they did not see these plot holes? I understand that Bethesda was under pressure from the fans for having and Ending to a Bethesda game :ahhh: They rushed to make them happy and in doing so Broke alot of the plot lines and story paths of the game. It is fitting that the DLC was called Broken Steel.

Why did the brotherhood wait to activate LIberty Prime? because it wasn't working yet, why can't the same explanation apply to the orbital strike weapon? The first mission in Broken Steel where you attack that satelite link implies to me the Enclave was there to get the orbital weapon operational. The reason they didn't blow up the citdal is simple, with LIberty Prime gone the Enclave stood a chance of winning the war and lets face it the LW would probably be a higher priority target.

Which begs the question, why didn't they hit the button when their perimeters were breached and when all other options had been exhausted. When the LW was at their front door and was quite litterally banging it down? When the Citiadel is blown up, its implied that the CWBOS is no more, why would the Enclave not take that opportunity even if it was to be used as a parting shot?

Also, why does AAFB still get hit even when I target the Citadel? Even though it says that its not in position to strike at Rivet City (which is just across the potomac).

There is nothing given to use saying the Enclave had trouble getting it working. They could have simply destroyed the citadel long before the BoS got Optimus Prime Working.

Why didn't the Enclave take over the citadel before the BoS got to DC. They would have known about Prime being there.

Why does the Enclave get destroyed no matter what you do in Broken Steel?

Why is it that the "graveyard" scenario does not play out. We were led to believe that it would kill pretty much everyone really fast and yet it does not happen. This makes the entire point of the Enclave's plan (Eden's plan) pointless.

Other questions outside of Broken Steel DLC

Why does Augustus Rebel against Eden and then turn around after that and say things that still show him as loyal?

Why does the Enclave make a water born FEV virus and not just try their plan from Fallout 2 again? It would have worked so why would they go for Eden's watered down version?

So many question and problems just for the Enclave alone.

To add to that. Why does the LW die almost instantly from drinking the contaiminated water, but everyone else doesn't seem to notice the water is infected and continues to distribute it? Why is it that other people just get tummy aches and the LW dies right when the water touches his lips?

There is nothing given to use saying the Enclave had trouble getting it working. They could have simply destroyed the citadel long before the BoS got Optimus Prime Working.

The fact they didn't use it right away is evidence they had trouble getting it working. Liberty Prime is destroyed outside the Satelite Relay Station which was originally used to aim their orbital bombardments before control was transfered to the mobile base crawler.

Why didn't the Enclave take over the citadel before the BoS got to DC. They would have known about Prime being there.

The destruction of the Oil Rig would probably have destoryed most of the Enclaves records so they might no longer have access to all necessary information. Eden for example doesn't know why the previous plan failed simply that something obviously went wrong. This helps support that the old records from the oil rig are largely incomplete.

The surviors having only just arrived might not have considered it worth it to fight through the robotic defenders inorder to reach a robot nobody could ever get to work. After all there was no one in Capital Wasteland who could get inside so why bother until it was necessary? The Enclave does enjoy biding its time, they arrived on the mainland soon after the war with unity was over, but it was decades before they really became active.
Then Lyon's rolls in one and snatches things out from underthem. By the time a need to rush became apparent it was already tolate.

Why is it that the "graveyard" scenario does not play out. We were led to believe that it would kill pretty much everyone really fast and yet it does not happen. This makes the entire point of the Enclave's plan (Eden's plan) pointless.

Why does Augustus Rebel against Eden and then turn around after that and say things that still show him as loyal?

He doesn't trust the LW and believes its best to eliminate the threat. Many people commit treason in the name of protecting the nation there supposedly betraying. Chef Hanlon falsified intelligence reports because be believed war with the Legion would eventually lead the NCR to ruin. From Autumns perspective, trusting boy/girl who the Enclave tried to kill, caused the death of his/her father, and stole the lifes work of his parents sounds like a bad idea. He wil protect Eden and the Enclave even from themselves.

Why does the Enclave make a water born FEV virus and not just try their plan from Fallout 2 again? It would have worked so why would they go for Eden's watered down version?

Lack of proper equipment and probably time. Raven's Rock doesn't have the resources the Oil Rig did, so trying to generate the massive quanities necessary and the delivery system to pump it into the jet stream would take to much time and probably require construction on the surface that would attract attention. And considering the plan was disgarded maybe the Enclave themselves were no longer all immune to it either. The original toxin didn't discriminate and the Enclave required vaccine.

They didn t use it, because it was not thought up yet.

Broken Steel showed us what really happened in fo3 for the most part. All seroius questions were answered. I ll take a Broken Steel dlc that shows me what happened over the horrible end game writing and story over lap flaws that plague fo nv every time. Not to mention we have no idea what happened.
