Old World Blues Next Week

Post » Sun Jul 17, 2011 6:10 am

So, does anyone have any idea if the new DLC coming out next week will also include a patch to patch the last patch since so many of us have been unable to get the game to work since 1.4? (Seems to be mostly us 64 bit people though.)

Nobody cares about Old World Blues because it is another lousy 2 hour copy paste dlc for that overrated junk beta. The dlc for the Witcher 2 is going to be free and Deus Ex: Human Revolution is coming in August along with Tropico 4. You could take a date to a performing arts center to see Mary Poppins, Carnival boat to Ensenada, go to jujubeats, or just drive somewhere with your friends. You may love Fallout, but there is a far distance between being a Fallout fan and an Obsidian pusilanimite.

Yeah there was a new patch released just now. Unfortunately it didn't fix the game though. The crashing problems from 1.41 remain and the game remains unplayable.

So they have released an incremental patch to 1.4? 1.41? And it doesn't appear to be helping? I think I'll just wait to go back to Steam online until more reports show up. This is certainly frustrating, I eventually got FNV to work fine with 1.2, reasonably well with 1.3 and even after a more than a week I can't get 1.4 even back to bearable. With the new DLC coming out next week I'm afraid that Beth has gone and shot themselves in the foot (or revenue stream as it were) because I'm sure I won't be the only one to put off purchasing the new DLC until we get some kind of response from them on fixing their latest patch.

[And Yes, I do appreciate how difficult it is to write code for PC games due to the vast difference in platforms, especially with an obsolete engine, but continually going from bad to worse should indicate that a new strategy is in order.]

I'm so glad you seem to be able to read the minds of everybody who owns this game.

I have to be honest. I love this game...when it works. It is perhaps my most favourite game that I have ever played on the PC...when it works. The outstanding features of the game are even more apparent when you factor in the amazing mod community. I thought the vanilla game was fun, but now that I run a fairly heavily modded version, it has become almost infinitely replayable...WHEN IT WORKS. The Fallout series (3 & NV anyway) are superb in idea, and less so in execution. I find FNV to be completely compelling, and then it breaks. Again.

I dream of the day when a later iteration of the series is given ample development time and is released in a stable form, because the idea is fantastic. I know that this is a tall order (and I truly mean this without sarcasm) for a sandbox game (how exactly are you going to code a game that lets players do whatever they feel like doing in whatever order they feel like doing it?), but I am an optimist.

For those of you that can't get the game to work after the 1.4 patch, uninstall all mods (not just deactivate, but actually uninstall), and then reinstall them. No idea why this worked, but it got my game back up an running again. ( I sure hope I don't have to do that again with 1.41 though.)

I love this game too and always will...but I have already played 600+ hours and by now, the patch-hopping is becoming kinda old.
I'm definitely waiting for the rest of the DLC to be out and all the patches to be out before I update the game again. I'd rather wait for that time and then know exactly what I'm going to be stuck with "forever" (and then use whichever patch I prefer), then be on this constant yo-yo.
