Is Autosave safe to use?

Post » Sun Jul 17, 2011 4:22 pm

Since the new patch came out I decided to finally play FO:NV again. I've started a fresh game on a new install and character. While I do plan to make multiple save files, I also intended to use the autosave. In past games like Oblivion and FO3 I would use the wait/autosave and then immediately reload that autosave. After a few of these, I would make a hard save in a new file. With this process I never came across any issues or corruption. But I worry that this won't be the case for FO:NV....

In short: is the autosave safe to use?

Kinda, but in a BIG way:

It can slow your load sometimes, but idk if the 360 differs but it can, and I mean IT CAN save your butt in case something fatal happens. I always have it on but I don't depend on it.

You shouldn't trust the auto-save. Especially not after this latest patch. A good many problems are popping up with this latest "patch" - if that's what we're calling that manure pile the programmers foisted on us. In three hours of playing I've had seven crashes occur while walking through a door. Sometimes the auto-save will be fine. Sometimes it will be corrupted.

I'd personally shelve the game until these jackasses fix the problems they keep on creating. Play something else. Something that works reliably.

seriously have any of you ever played a game with even a fraction of the amount of bugs here.ive played maybe 2 games that have crashed maybe once or twice.i dont get how it can have so many bugs.did they make it with their eyes closed.i know the engines crap but come on.why the hell are they using it.i had no problems on oblivion but it was tired then.but still they use it again.the result is a bug filled fa3.so whats their answer, try using it again for nv!wtf! theres a video on youtube of the guys making the latest bad company showing off their awesome new game engine they used even though the last one was fine but they use a new one to keep the game with the times and make it a better game.yet these guys cant be arsed even though the game needs it.shocking.

To be fair, if Obsidian tried to create a whole game engine, it probably wouldn't work anyway (it might even break the console!). Even making one game on someone else's engine was way too much for them. So was patching it.

At least Skyrim will run on the new Creation engine, and is being developed by Bethesda itself, and so should be MANY, MANY times higher quality.

I've been playing next-gen games since 2006 and I've never seen a game this buggy. Even garbage titles that are $20 a week after release have run smoother than this abortion of a game. Don't get me wrong, NV is a good game, when it works . . . WHEN it works, which isn't often.
