I've not played any of the other scrolls games and was just wondering roughly how long a 24hr will last in skyrim. it said oblivion was 1 minute real time = 30 minutes game time on a web site i found. which means 1 day would take 48 mins in real-time in oblivion. so will skyrim be the same.

probably the same as oblivion id imagine,if you get it for pc you'll be able to make it real time with mods eventually
and hour and a half to 2 hours is beyond sixy for a day in Skyrim. besides its not often people sit through an entire day and often wait to speed up time, what I don't like is that in 30 minutes (which flys by) the game goes from morning to eveneing  so for the sake of times sanity atleast extend it a little bit.
I think outside a town or city, it should be like oblivion. Inside a town or city, (because of real time conversations, or at least i think it is real time) it should be slowed down.
i certainly hope not. im on PC so at least i can change mine. the default timescale was ridiculous. you started robbing a house in the evening and when you left it was morning already. what kind of horrible thief takes all night to rob one house? people that played vampire characters have also commented on how stupid it was that they had to wait or sleep so often because nights went by so quickly. someone made a good point about shadows.......you will be able to see shadows moving very quickly on the ground which will look [censored]. actions like crossing a room or picking up something off the ground to not take several minutes. they take seconds.
and before someone brings up the "but skyrim is 1000s of miles wide" argument i should point out one little fact. skyrim is NOT 1000s of miles wide. it is 16 square miles period end of story. in order for skyrim to be 1000s of miles wide that would mean that my charcter is hundreds of feet tall and castles and trees are over a mile high. that is just stupid. add to that that nirn is round, im assuming, so it would be impossible to see the distances we can because they would be below the horizon at those distances.
I think Bethesda likes their 30:1 time scale but on the other hand with so many dynamic things going on now they may very well have extended the day some to allow things to happen.
I always hated the 30:1 timescale so hopefully Bethesda changes it. You can change it on pc with a console command. I usually use 6:1 which would be set timescale to 6. Console users are out of luck and I doubt Bethesda does anything that allows changing timescale on consoles.

and that only 4 miles wide. quite a difference from 1000 miles. lol.
8:1 is perfect for me. That makes a 24-hour cycle take 3 real world hours. The default 30:1 is way too fast. Enter a dungeon at noon, quest for 20 minutes, come outside and it's pitch black... I despise that.
