How Big will the Big Empty be?

Post » Mon Jul 18, 2011 4:09 pm

Judging by the name alone, one can assume that the Big Empty will, well, be big. Now, after watching the Qore 36 preview AND the trailer of Old World Blues, it looks like the area within the Big MT crater is quite large plus there is going to be the areas underground. I'm hoping the DLC will be large like Honest Hearts and Point Lookout. It looks like there is a map of the Big Empty in the trailer @0:20 (Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07ihRxUB2CE&feature=player_embedded#at=20). So I ask you, how big is the Big Empty? No hate or off topic rants please :toughninja:

The problem with the name is that everything's relative. It will be "big". Big in comparison to what? My bedroom? Honest Hearts? Point Lookout? Who knows?!

All I can say for sure is that I will be disappointed if by "Big Empty", they mean "as big and empty" as Honest Hearts was. You can do everything/see everything in that DLC in 4 hours.

Hopefully, something along the lines of Point Lookout in terms of size and explorability, but with a better story and wackier characters and weapons. I'm very much looking forward to this. Hopefully, it will erase the bad taste in my mouth from the first 2 DLCs :foodndrink:

Hard to say. It looks like a lot of it will be underground, which removes the possibility for fast-travelling, therefore won't have map markers. So, I don't think it'll be "big" in covering a lot of surface area, but it'll probably be deep like the Vaults.

Oh, and "Big Empty" is a bastardisation of "Big Mt" (Big Mountain), though it isn't clear exactly to which real-world mountain it relates. We know it's a crater, so I'd guess the rim would be roughly the size of the base of Black Mountain.

I would hope it's larger than black mountain. Point lookout was about a fourth of the CW. Hopefully the big empty is about as big, black mountain, base included is only about a sixteenth of the playable MW.

But like you said, if there are many areas as big as vaults underground, it would eliminate the need for a lot of space, but even judging by the previews, the Big Empty looks quite large.

Eh, I'm honestly expecting 30+ but I'd be happy with less. I already know this will replace my favorite DLC for FO. Some say I am setting my expectations high, but it's not like I'll be dissapointed if it turns out complete crap. :P

From the trailer, it looks like there is going to be a lot of indoor roaming in Old World Blues, and the indoor areas could be pretty big. I just hope the outdoor map is roughly the same size, or slightly larger than Honest Hearts.

I think it will be like the pit as far as size goes but I would say about 25 locations

The number of locations is not what matters to me. I just hope the map isn't redunandent like the Sierra Madre Villa map was.

It's like ok...more villa roof tops and more bear traps everywhere and oh look ! oh more "Ghost people" throwing spears and gas bombs at my face.

I never felt that there was any point to explore. I got everything and everytime I'd go somewhere new it was the same cloud and ghost people. I only really liked the interior of the Casino because there weren't ghost people all the time.

Because there is nothing to explore. It's just villa rooftops and alleys and bear traps and ghost people with spears and gas bombs and speakers over and over and over and over and over again.

Yeah I really hated the amount of ammo for the Holorifle you were given. If you never played the DLC or have a low EW skill its almost impossible.

Yeah and then your forced to use P.O.S. weapons like the beartrap fist and if your lucky enough to hack the computer for the storage room closet in the police station, you can fight with a P.O.S. police pistol.

The whole DLC forces you to play a certain way. And for me that just kills the whole RPing aspect of it.

The Pitt was a good DLC because not only a good story but it didn't box you in even though the circumstances are similar.

Honestly, I hope they keep outdoor locations minimum.
