Enemies scale to your level?

Post » Mon Jul 18, 2011 12:11 pm

Yo Fellow ES fans!!

Ok before anyone asks, I have checked various sites & info, but still cannot find a definite answer! One bit of info I read said that the levelling will be similar to fallout 3 as opposed to oblivion but weren't these 2 games pretty much on the same par re how we levelled?

Tbh I don't mind enemies auto scaling to whatever level you are but I personally prefer RPG's where areas are level specific so for example a certain area is just for level 20's so ofc you can enter the environment but anything lower than a level 20 & you may be in a world of hurt :)

So anyone know how the levelling is gonna adopt which method please guys?

Many thanks

It's like Fallout 3, I think that the creatures will level with you, but some areas will be set to contain creatures 5 levels above your character, wheras others will have creatures 3 levels below and some with the same level as you.

It's supposed to be more of a blend... Some areas or foes will be difficult to access or defeat at lower levels while other areas are sort of scaled to your character at the time...

Combine the two above and that's about what you get.

the way i see it, enemies scale to the player level within the location's level bracket.

player level 5 and location level bracket between 20 and 30, the enemies would be scaled to level 20
where as if the player is level 40, the enemies would be scaled to level 30 in that said location.

In regards to leveling... how are weapons both rare and unique scaled?

Hypothetical: If a rare leveled weapon is found in Cave "x" and I start at location "y" in the beginning; at level 1, if I were ridiculously lucky enough to survive reaching cave "x" and get to the location and retrieve said Item; would its quality be dependent on my level, or will it be as powerful as it would if found at level 25?

Edit: Thank you, Gregasaurus. Forgive my laps in memory. I've been awake too long and my brain is apparently "running on empty".

5) Are loot and quest rewards level scaled, like in Oblivion? Will there be any powerful un-scaled items?
Bruce: We’re handling leveling stuff similar to how we did in Fallout 3, but with a few new twists that we hope players won’t even notice. The enemies and loot are based on the “encounter zone” you’re in, so it could be higher or lower level than your current level. We do have a new concept of epic or “special” loot that you can randomly find in many cases, regardless of the zone, and you will still get better stuff in the better zones with your level higher. Same goes for quest rewards. We try to make them appropriate for what you did. Sometimes that is random, sometimes that is a set item. There’s a lot of specific stuff that is very powerful, like the Daedric artifacts.

If you do a quest and your reward is supposed to be scaled, then it's not a scaled version of a particular item, it's a random item generated according to what is appropriate for the quest, your character, and the quest giver rewarding you with it.

If it's a specific item it's always that specific item. Daedric artifacts and the like are always the same, and you have a random chance of finding special high-quality loot anywhere in the game world.
