alduin is, and isn't, Akatosh.

between the 2 cultures, they are considered to be the deity equivalent of one another, but not the same god. its lie the Greek and roman gods, where they are so similar that they are considered the same god, but have subtle differences which make them separate gods altogether. i do not remember what separates them, but feel free to look it up.

If this is true, and we have to let Alduin eat the world to prevent something... worse (sounds funny I know) from happening, then why would they allow us to keep playing after the main quest is done.... Maybe we can play as seven year olds?

Ah, but even if Alduin eating the world is something desirable when taking the long view of causality, who is to say our character, and their supporters will be wise enough to realize it?

Think about it, what if by some terrible twist, Alduin's eating of the world is required because Nirn has an expiration date? And that by possibly stopping him forever, we have prolonged our existence superficially, but the world itself is destined to die in the end anyways after a certain amount of time.

In the eyes of short-sighted mortals, we have saved the world, but in the eyes of a superior being, we have doomed our existence to a final death with no possibility of rebirth or renewal.

Good questions... There are so many more questions than answers, which is good at this point... But I should stop thinking about it too much so I don't spoil it for myself and possibly others without knowing it.

Of course you could say the same thing about the Oblivion crisis as well, we are only delaying the end, or choosing a different path towards it.

Sometimes, a dog is a dog, and a dragon is a dragon. And maybe, Alduin is Alduin, and Akatosh never really existed. Imagine, that the pact of Alessia was a much different affair than stories led us to believe, and was really a pact made out of desperation to buy time, rather than one of actual reverence or friendship.

Imagine if the reason for the portrayal of the gods being so divided/different is not a result of them actually being different beings, so much as mortals being unable to believe that the gods are duplicitous and more than capable of putting on a show of being kind and benevolent if it serves their purposes at the time.

I like to think that Alduin and Akatosh are two separte ,er, things. It is admitedly hard for me to even begin to try and understand all of the lore surrounding the gods. How are you supposed to differentiate between the fictional fact and fictional fiction. For me it wouldn't make sence if Alduin and Akatosh are the same because in Oblivion akatosh pretty much saved the day (yes i know it was just its avatar) just to "eat" the world a few centuries later. If that is really the case then there is most likely a good reason.
